Playoff experience doesn’t matter to me—that’s a reflection of team construction not coaching. Or at least coaching isn’t a big enough factor.
I think you are overrating Vogel’s handling of the “knuckleheads”. Outside of Spoelstra, pretty much every coach Lebron has had is a figurehead and not really a coach.
okay. Experience alone I’d agree with, but if success (which Vogel has had in Indiana also) in the playoffs isn’t indicative of good coaching, how do you gauge it? I mean, do you look at overachieving? I’d say those Pacers teams, in small markets and only having one star giving the Heat the business and advancing to the ECF in multiple years is signs of good coaching and over achieving.
I mean, a couple days ago you said that the Lakers without LeBRon and Davis have “one of the worst rosters in the league.” Yet, they went something like 12 and 15 without both guys. I’d say if you can stay within 3 games of .500, especially in the West, with what you call a terrible roster, that’s got to be anorher sign of good coaching, no?
Personally, I look at the entire picture with Vogel and see a guy who’s gotten teams to overachieve, had solid playoff success and managed a bunch of crazy guys last year, under trying circumstances to blend with Bron and Ad all as signs he’s a solid to good coach.
Now, maybe you can say he stunk in Orlando. And Sure he stunk in Orlando, but who hasn’t? Also, it’s not like Monty doesn’t have warts on his resume with a pretty unimpressive Pelicans tenure that only resulted in one playoff appearance/series win.
What is it you think Monty has over Vogel? Xs and Os? In game adjustments?
