SI self-contrdicting

First the article says,
"Despite a nonexistent pass rush, they chose not to take local Arizona State end Terrell Suggs, whose NCAA-record 24 sacks as a senior were more than the Cardinals' total (21) in '02."

And then later in the same article,
"now Arizona has to hope that Pace can be an impact pass rusher, a tall order for a rookie."

Gee and I thought that both Suggs and Pace are rookies. Hhmmm! And Oh Yeah, how many sacks has Suggs gotten so far this preseason???

Many years ago SI was the premire sports mag. It now has become the premire sports rag!

But really who gives a crap!!! They play the games on the field!

ASFNer's :trout: SI

The real issue though is football, one of the truest team sports, and in the case of the Cards I believe the sum is much greater than the individual parts. That is what so many prognosticators seem to miss. They do their positional rankings and cannot find anything good to say.

Once this TEAM gets on the field though I think they will open some eyes. They have opened eyes this preseason and they will continue to do so. I haven't sipped from the Kool-aid yet and I still maintain a losing season is likely but this year we will see a Cards team that wins games and really presses teams for a full 60 minutes. I predict there will be no KC or DEN debacle's this year.

Bring on Detroit and let's get started

hmm, i totally agree with this take. i see us winning 5 games, but i think the team, as a whole, will be better than it's parts individually. also, though somewhat snide, i can't disagree with the article. also, the quote from the scout, doesn't that convince some of you that maybe the national media is not alone in its opinions of the cards? we're talking about another team's scout for chrissakes!

I believe that it is at worst a 6 win team but I am guessing 8 to 10 even after Starks and KVB are gone. That hardly equates to the worst team in football.

We will see who knows more shortly.

i don't get this sentiment. i too have watched this team for years and thus i too should know if it's that bad and i DO beleive it very well might be. i think 8 or 10 wins is a pipe dream.

If these so-called experts were so great at talent evaluation you would think that they would be GM's or Head Coaches by now.

If the Cardinals are the worst team in the history of the NFL, as these experts so proudly state, then why didn't we have the First pick in the draft for the last 10 to 20years?

You want to read some good reporting then go to the ASFN homepage. These Experts could take some lessons from those who report right here!

you guys think they're so off-base and yet, every year they predict we'll stink and every year we have. that sounds like they're pretty good at their job to me. regardless of the basis of their opinions.

I am not the least surprised that this article was written by SI. If follows their pattern of writing artilce to fill preconcieved notions. Facts need not apply. I trust the National Enquirer more.

If anyone that wonders why there are so many negative articles on the Cards this year, just read some of the posts from Nidan, Brighteyes, and Skkorp who have commented on several occasions that the press doesn't show up for practices until the very end so they can get a couple of quotes to make their articles look official. Fact is, most writers don't know anything about the players on our roster, so they naturally assume they all stink.

Even if we end up winning this year and showing everyone up, they will write it off to us playing the easiest schedule in the league, and a fluke, much like the 3-13 Bears of a couple years ago.

Ouchie, see the problem is that the Cardinals are consistently called the WORST team in the NFL.
But, when was the last time that that was actually true? When was the last time that the Cardinals had the #1 pick in the draft?

It's really the fact that the Cardinals have been Masters of Mediocrity that makes ALL of us so crazy!!

i don't agree with this. when we went to the playoffs we played a fattened schedule and the following year writers were pumpin' us up as an up and coming team. i honestly believe that writers WANT teams like the cards to do well b/c everyone loves the cinderella story...

they just don't believe it possible (and, historically speaking, rightfully so).

Um... Looking at how they followed that 13-3 season, they were a fluke. If you want to be respected in this league, you have to do it year after year. If we somehow go 13-3 this season, we'll be the talk of the NFL. If we go 10-6 this season, we'll be the talk of the NFL. We'll be the Oakland Athletics of the NFL.

I haven't heard the Cards called the "worst" in the NFL until this offseason. Basically, they were considered the most consistently below-average, but not cover-your-eyes-awful, team in the NFL, and were soundly ignored. Being good is a story, being really bad, Bungles-style, is a story, but merely being pretty bad for five decades isn't really a story.

EDIT: In fact, if you look at the SI preview from last season, it predicted the Cards to be better, but couldn't really improve on their record in what was percieved to be the "toughest division in football."

Well, of course they do. It only makes sense. I mean, almost alone among the worst teams in the league from last season, the Cardinals didn't go out and hire a Super Bowl winner (Parcells), division winner (Mariucci), or Super Bowl winning coordinator (Lewis) as head coach in the offseason.

The Jags? They hired Jack Del Rio, who apparently will leverage one standout season as a DC into becoming a great HC, and transform that suffering franchise overnight.

The Bears get a pass, I guess, because they had double-digit wins two years ago, before getting hit by injuries last year. (Yeah, we had injured players too, but the Cards were only mediocre before everyone got hurt.)

See how easy that is? From 27th to 32nd, without having to waste all that time watching practices, evaluating players, or grading preseason game play.

Once they get on the field, in games that count, we'll see how much of this punditry holds up.

worst, bottom five, what's the difference? i would classify mediocre as consistently in the 6-8 win category. we ain't in that consistently. look at our history.

There are so many inconsitancies in that story they are not worth pointing out.

I am very happy with how the team is progressing. I think Mac has done a good job of lowering mistakes and penalties the last year or so. I think we have seen some improvement from the front office and the organization in general.

I am optimistic pretty much every year but last season was hard to take.
I will be disappointed with anything less than 8 wins. However, I am afraid 6 to 7 will probably be the case.
Winning 9 or 10 would be a dream come true.

GO CARDS!
