This should be moved, I'm sure, but just wanted to say thanks to everyone who wished my dad a healthy recovery while in the hospital.

I really want to give a shout out to Mitch. He and I have had differences, we disagree a lot. He said he put me on ignore because of things I've said.

But he was one of the first people to say he hopes everything is okay with my dad.

I've said some mean stuff to him. For him to say that is badass. Really badass.

Just makes me realize we are all Cardinals and all family. Go Cards!!

(My dad is fine and came home yesterday. He and my mom have been traveling in a travel trailer for 20 years and rolled it and lost everything they own...)

Sorry to hear about what your parents lost. At least you didn't lose him. Did he get injured in the roll over?

As an old person (77) I know that driving isn't as easy as it used to be. And that's just driving a sedan. Glad to hear that he is well.

Wow, Darkside-----I must have missed the original post, I was out of state for a week visiting my 93 year old mother. I hope your Mom and Dad recover fully.

My wife and I have given up on travelling with a camper. We now just take the car, and stay in motels. We also take fewer trips now, and share the driving more. Driving fewer miles each day, and staying off the interstates has rewarded us with easier travel, better sight seeing, and much better contact with our fellow Americans.

Doing so is easier on us because we no longer have to worry about cooking, packing the camper, towing etc. AND we get to visit with people more than we did when camping alone.

Because the cost is more for meals and rooms, we take fewer trips, but we enjoy them more because of less effort on our part, and we seem to appreciate the times we travel more than we did before.

God bless and care for your parents. They are lucky to have a son like you.

Thanks for the kind words Catfish. I didn't make a thread about it. I was still in Flag at the hospital and mentioned it in someone else's thread during the game.

Sorry to hear about what your parents lost. At least you didn't lose him. Did he get injured in the roll over?

They flipped their truck 4 or 5 times with their travel-trailer attached and went into a ravine. He was flown to Flag by chopper from outside Prescott. He had a lacerated Kidney, some broken ribs, and some fractured vertebrae in his neck. He also had a huge hole in his head and his scalp was missing, but they said that actually helped, strangely, so that his brain didn't swell and they could get the bleeding inside under control. He was in critical condition for about a week but came home Thursday.

He has to wear a solid brace around his neck for a couple months but I know he'll be alright because he's cussing like a sailor about it. (When one of the ICU nurses told me he was a model patient, I told her, "Now I know this is the worst he's ever felt," and my dad, jacked up on Morphine, just started cracking up, and I knew he'd be okay). The first couple nights they didn't know if he was going to make it, but he's stronger than I gave him credit for.

My mom, amazingly, only had one small scratch on her wrist.

As an old person (77) I know that driving isn't as easy as it used to be. And that's just driving a sedan. Glad to hear that he is well.

I've worried about them for years, they've driven that thing all over the country for almost 20 years. If it had to happen, I'm glad they were here so I could get to them quickly and take care of my mom. They lost everything they had--when I got there my mom still had her bloody clothes on (from my dad) and she didn't have her purse or debit card or anything to get a room or some clothes and food.

I have the greatest wife man, she took care of my mom and bought her clothes and stuff I wouldn't even think of--took care of her like her own mother. It's times like these I realize how totally lucky I am. I don't deserve to be so lucky, believe me.

Me too.

Sorry Darkside. What an awful thing to happen. I can't imagine what they went through. My prayers will be with them. And you as well.

Thank you Dems.

And thanks to everyone else as well who sent PM's or had us in your thoughts. You guys and gals are great.

Nothing lame about his thread, this is what makes our forum great... good people there for each other, with the right to argue like a bunch of insane nut cases over less important things like football :)

Good for you and your family, Darkside. I lost my dad in a plane crash and my family was never the same after that. You have my blessings.
