Who's out there (ala Matt Schaub) that teams might come available via trade or free agency next year?

Very interesting question.

For every Matt Schaub you have many more Scott Mitchell's.

Mike Vick will probably be the best QB available next year. Outside of that, there might not be many options better/more experienced than Max Hall.

Reaching on all of these:

Orton or Quinn (DEN)
Gradkowski (OAK)
Redman (ATL)
Thigpen (MIA)
Rosenfels (NYG)
Orlovsky (HOU)

Tyler Thigpen!

LOL. Don't know why I like this guy but I do.

Why wait till next year. Byron Leftwich is available as soon as he is healthy.

Line Leftwich and Anderson in front of the broad side of a barn, and see who can hit it. LOL.

Tyler Thigpen is the 3rd string qb at Miami behind Henne and Pennington. He threw 18 TDs and 12 interception as a starter for KC in 2008 but lost his job there when KC signed Cassell. He also scored 3 rushing tds in 2008. We could trade for him now, he would be better than DA for sure.

Additionally for whatever its worth Marc Bulger signed only a one year contract with the Ravens. I believe he will be a free agent next season.

If quinn showed ANYTHING in the preseason, I think he'd be an interesting player, but he didn't.

And The Broncos just locked Orton up with a new contract a few weeks ago. Otherwise, I'd love to have him here. I think he'd kick-ass in this offense.

IMO re-treads are about a bigger of a gamble then 1st round QB's. At minimum the gamble and percentage that work out are just about even.

Draft a 1st round kid and sign Bulger to play for a year is the route I would take.

Or hope Coach Wiz affinity for Hall is well deserved.

Possible draft picks -

Not a fan of Locker, very streaky, and very inaccurate, if you cant even muster up a completion percentage over 59% in college 9 times out of 10 you wont in the NFL.

Ryan Mallett although physically gifted I am not sure if he is a cerebral enough to be a guy Coach Wiz will like. Not sure his lackadaisical character would endear himself to coach as well. Hopefully that wont be the case because I have really liked his play this year.

Christian Ponders name has been brought up a lot. But the dude just is not a playmaker at all.

My favorite right now might be Andrew Luck. I like that he has been able to improve from the year prior(I like kids that show improvement from year to year), super efficient with that ball this year, even last year he threw only 4 INT's, perfect size, smart, and nifty feet but not happy feet.

You cant bring in a starting QB after the season starts just doesnt make sense. Takes a lot of time for a QB to learn everything. Its not the same as bringing in a defender or receiver.

That being said: Max Hall.

Yeah, Orton isn't a backup either, but I threw his name on there because I figured the Broncos used a 1st round pick on Tebow for a reason. Makes me feel like Orton might be available soonish (like after this season soonish).

My brother (Bills fan) says that we've already missed out on our opportunity to draft Luck because we've won a game--the Bills will be taking him with the #1 pick overall. :)

I think they would go with the stronger arm of Mallett if he were to come out early. The swirling winds of Buffalo stadium may be the worst in the NFL. Rumor was last year they took a lot of QB's off their draft board last year because they felt they didn't have strong enough arms to work in their home field. But the draft is a long way off who who knows.

I have watched all three of his games this year and multiple from last year. He is ABSOLUTELY the real deal. Harbaugh compare his preperation and acumen to Peyton Manning all the time and there are quite a few simliaraties. Good genes from his dad, protypical size, big arm, and makes the right decision time and time again.

I could not be more sure of a prospect then I am with him right now. If we careen out of control and have a terrible season, lets do it right and make sure we have a shot at this guy.

He will be a NFL star. I am convinced after watching him closely and doing some research.

What about the former 49er Shaun Hill? He's the guy everyone wanted Matt Leinart to be. Gets by his weak arm by being extremely accurate on the short passes and is calm and poised in the pocket plus he's a winner who led the GW drive against us in week 1 last year and was a FB dive away from getting the W on MNF. Think of him as a poor mans 09 Warner.

I'M really enjoying the season Mallet is having so far in the tough SEC conference. This weeks test against Bama will be a scouts dream to watch Ryan play.

I personally don't get to see as many of Luck's games as I'll get to see this week with them playing Notre Dame.

I think Locker has fallen far from what folks thought when drafting Sam Bradford this last year.

Somers questions the progress coach Whiz has said DA is making week to week in many of his tweets as if DA is even regressing.Said today he see's no improvement at all.Its gonna get interesting.

Plus also some of the things Somers is saying about coach Davis are really harsh also.Wonder if his access will be cut soon as I've seen happen in the past in some of the same instances. At least he says what he see's.Gotta thank him for that.Ge's were we wish we could be and see.

The team gave 8 First downs by penalty last week so today focus on playing intelligent football was mentioned.About time.

I think he was just being funny saying that the Bills are headed to a 0-win season, whereas we already have 1 win, so we can't have the first pick of the draft :)

You know I love Andrew Luck too but I have to say he really needs to improve on his accuracy. 56% as a freshman, he's up to 64% now but really didn't throw the ball well against UCLA which was the best defense Stanford has seen (45%).

I have a friend who teaches at Stanford and he says the word on campus is that Luck is telling everyone he's coming back. I think people are constantly afraid that Harbaugh will take an NFL job so they keep asking Luck if he's staying because they think if he left, it would be the perfect time for Harbaugh to leave.

While I'm at it, if Whiz wasn't our coach, Harbaugh would be high on my list of replacements.
