Laraque hasn't been traded yet, but he has learned that he will not play another game for Phoenix. There are four teams supposedly looking at trading for Laraque, including Pittsburgh. One variation of a deal had Laraque and a 2nd round pick being traded to the Pens for a 1st round pick (in other words, the Coyotes move up about a dozen spots in the draft or so), but this has been refuted elsewhere.

According to Sportsnet, the Coyotes are also looking at moving Curtis Joseph, Owen Nolan, and Kevyn Adams before Tuesday's trade deadline.

Is this the guy that was the up and coming in the minors guy that people said was the goalie of the future?

Bummer.

No, Laraque is the enforcer (and probably the best one in the league at that). LeNeveu is the goaltender.

Taffe and Lehoux were just recalled from the AHL, putting us over the roster limit. Safe to say, something is up.

i didn't even realize taffe was back with us......who's he sleeping with (haha)
He's either engaged or married to Gretzky's niece. Kinda funny that he was traded away by Gretzky and Co. in the first place.

I wouldn't mind if they traded every one of their older players. Laraque seems to have no jump in his step and Roenick would rather give up the puck than take a hit.

I am sick of watching this team be almost mediocre.

Big Georges Laraque could be a Pittsburgh Penguin by the deadline, but the deal does not appear as close as was reported in Phoenix on Friday. While Pittsburgh has some level of interest in Laraque, the Penguins aren't knocking down the Coyotes door by any means. Laraque, who has a no trade clause, would likely prefer to hook up with Sidney Crosby, but other teams may have more interest in the heavyweight including Dallas, Vancouver and Calgary.

According to TSN, Laraque has waived his no trade clause for Pittsburgh, but no deal yet.

Laraque waives no-trade to go to Pens

Georges Laraque

Forward Georges Laraque has waived his no-trade clause with the Phoenix Coyotes for the purpose of being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for forward Daniel Carcillo and an eighth-round pick.
Laraque, 30, has cemented his role as an enforcer in his nine-year NHL career with 878 penalty minutes in 546 games.
He is under contract for US $1.1 million this season and $1.3 million next year after signing a two-year contract last summer.
The trade reunites Laraque with head coach Michel Therrien, as the two worked briefly together with Granby in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

It turns out that its a third round pick and not an eighth round pick, which makes sense since there are only seven rounds. A third rounder makes the deal a lot better.

Laraque is a player you bring in when you're 1-2 players away from play-off contention..... Unfortunately, the Yotes are always pretenders...not contenders, so acquiring a player in the mold of a Laraque in the first place was a rather inane move.....

Now, to add further insult to injury... look at the player they got in return for Laraque.... Someone who is 5'11 and 202 lbs.... A player who seems to be just an enforcer who hasnt had that much of a track record of scoring..... Another role player... that's what it seems Barrett and Co. are only enamored with.....

Oh... and please dont rejoice in how they also managed to acquire a draft choice... Since when have the Yotes been successful with their draft choices beyond the 2nd round in recent years? Ahhhhhhh......

Keith Yandle - 4th round 2005 and one of the top defensive prospects in the AHL.

Just one player who the Yotes will probably trade anyways for another 30-something player that will only last half the season here......Also.. a player who I believe hasnt played in an NHL game yet...

This is always a broken record with this franchise.... Sign a player to a long-term deal.. then immediately deal him that same deadline.... How are they developing any continuity, cohesion..cheimstry..etc.... No nucleaus... no direction.. no identity.....

Im sorry to be on the "darkside", but Ive tried so many times to get excited about this team, but only to be disappointed beyond belief.... I can no longer tolerate watching other teams draft way better than Yotes... 'net players who make an immediate impact for their respective teams, but witness the Yotes prospects take several years to develop...then to be dealt once they seemed to have established themselves....

They can never learn from their past mistakes.. and wont until they rid of their front office... this is even worst than the Cardinals FO of the early-mid 90s... I shudder to think what's next....

And I still don't get what the problem is with getting something out of nothing. That's just good asset management if you ask me.

Yandle played in 7 games for the Coyotes at the start of the season and looked good. He's one of the top prospects in the organization and the front office is very high on him. I really doubt he will be moved anytime in the near future.

The fact is... they shouldnt have acquired Laraque in the first place..... They knew coming into last season that they had to upgrade their offense.... they were horrid in '05-'06 in scoring...... What's even a more of a harsher reality... they're even worse now........ Laraque is a one-dimensional player, however, it appeared he tried to focus more on scoring (than he would have elsewhere) since he noticed that the Yotes were/are lacking in that area... that took him out of his element here.... he sacrificed his natural physical game to try to compensate for where the Yotes lacked offensively......

True, they might have gotten something (well virtually nothing) in return for him, but he shouldnt have been in Phoenix in the first place... especially with a team that doesnt have any true prolific scorer....... and what's worst.. they dealt 2 solid scorers today.. this is unreal.......

With these trades, what picks will we have in the upcoming draft?
I'm going off of memory, so this probably isn't 100% correct. All three picks acquired today are for 2008 (2 second rounders and a third rounder). For 2007 we have an extra first rounder and fourth rounder, but are missing our third rounder (Boynton trade).
