Has anyone noticed that our supposed #1 receiver hasn't practiced in about a week? What is the deal with his foot injury? Is it severe? You would think there would be articles covering what is going on with him. To me this is a much bigger deal than a veteran like Starks sitting out. I'm just kind of surprised how little attention this has garnered considering our young, inexperienced group of WR's. Anyone out there heard anything?

Maybe I'm alone here, but I thought Foster looked good in the practices I went to. I'm eager to see how he does in the pre-season games.

If he isn't hurt that is.

Since when is Foster our #1 receiver?

The only practice I saw was the Tuesday PM when Foster fumbled away 5 punts. I am still very worried about our WR corp. How we can have a guy who was #4 in Detroit and make him a #1 here does not make sense. I guess Sat night will give us some detail.

I always liked Freeman and was surprised we not make him an offer.

Some random thoughts about Foster -

1. When we traded our #7th round pick to get him and checked the write-ups on him, that didn't impress me. I figured we were getting a guy who knew what Sully's system was all about and might represent a good slot receiver but not much more.

2. Apparently, the coaches like him, and he's now being described as a 7th round (indirect) "steal." That's cool. Sully knows more about WR's in his little finger...

3. We have other punt returners. If Foster can't get it done, Boldin and Johnson probably can. He apparently has demonstrated that he's good enough to make the roster regardless of whether he is a reliable punt returner.

4. But I'm nervous. Gilmore and Foster? If I'm in the enemy defensive backfield, does that scare me? I'm hoping that, by regular season, we wind up with either Gilmore and Johnson, Gilmore and McAddley or McAddley and Johnson, with Boldin in the slot and Foster as our #4 (second slot) guy.

5. But having never seen the dude, all I can go on is what I read and hear. It could all change when we see him in action.

He's been our #1 for some time. He was #1 on the "depth chart" that Omo sent out early this week.

Yup, the #1 WRs of the NFC West, ladies and gentlemen, with 2002 stats:

Terrell Owens (100 rec, 1300 yds, 13 tds)
Koren Robinson (78 rec, 1240 yds, 5 tds)
Torry Holt (91 rec, 1302 yds, 4 tds)
Larry Foster (14 rec, 152 yds, 0 tds)

Well all I can say is he did nothing to impress me. He wasnt horrible(except at PR), he wasnt great either. I dont know what his measurables are but he looked no bigger than our Punt returner of last year(drawing a blank on the name) Im serious Foster is a small WR.

At this point I too would be more comfy knowing that at the end of training camp one of the WR combos Jeff listed above is what will be starting!

When you look at it like that he doesnt look all that bad I guess

ESPN.com has him listed at 5'10", 188. That probably means that in real life he's 5'8", 175. Damn.

If i could have my pick my 2 starters week 1 would be gilmore and McAddley. Boldin is a slot reciever and will most likely be the #3 will Johnson 4. Out of all the WR's i like McAddley the most.

The WR will look brilliant because we will have an awesome running game. Dare I say, best in the NFC West?

Is there any reason why?

He is a tough WR in a big frame. He can be a possesion guy and he can also blow by the CB. He is an all around WR. He can do it all. He reminds me of DB.

Um, okay. That must by why he was the wideout with the most drops in the league last season. Because he's a possession guy. And also that must be the reason that he was a fifth-round pick.

I'm sure he'll be a serviceable wideout, especially with Sullivan's teaching, but he's slipped down the depth chart since the beginning of training camp, and there has to be a reason for that.

For such a marvelous possession reciever, I wonder why his nickname is "McDrop"?

Shane, the guys name is Arnold Jackson, Foster is kinda small but not like Arnold Jackson was...

Foster is atleast built solid like a RB.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think Foster would be named our #1 guy. I have been pretty optomistic that a few guys would beable to do a descent job. Foster as our #1 however makes me ALOT less optomistic... :(

If he is so bad what does that say about the rest of the WR's. Jason will be a starter this year mark my words. IMO jason is the best WR on this team, i havent seen anyone who has been better.

A lot of players are going to be starters this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see each 6 WRs that we carry have a starting spot at some point this season. Personally, I think that in the final analysis our starting wideouts are going to be Bryan Gilmore, Bryant Johnson (who actually does remind people of DB), and Anquan Boldin (I think we're going to see a lot of 3 wide-out sets this season). McAddley will probably fight off Foster for the 4th WR job by the end of the season, with Foster making his living as a gunner and a player on special teams. McAddley is sitting 4th on the depth chart right now, behind Foster, Gilmore and Boldin.

But I guess you know more than Sullivan.

When did I say i knew more then sullivan? I was giving my opinion on the WR situation. Just like you gave yours on how it might pan out. So i guess you know more than sullivan. IMO i think jason will beat out gilmore, foster, and boldin. I forget who said it but i believe i heard that out of the group jason has the most potential to be a legit WR in the NFL. I only give my opinion i never state things as fact.

From everything I have heard this off season, aside from Johnson and Boldin, Gilmore is by far the most talented. Hopefully these three will be starting by week 5 or 6. I do think McAddley has some talent and will be a good back up for Gilmore.

HERE HERE! I totally agree, he is a gamer and I expect him to step up huge this year. He had some really solid grabs last season:)

Speaking of Foster and McGuiness - those are my two favorite beers (Fosters & Guiness). Now if only we can "draft" a guy named (Pilsner) Urquell I'd be in heaven.
