Opens October 12

Written by Six Feet Under scribe Nancy Oliver, Lars and the Real Girl is a heartfelt comedy starring Academy-Award nominated Ryan Gosling as Lars Lindstrom a loveable introvert whose emotional baggage has kept him from fully embracing life. After years of what is almost solitude, he invites Bianca, a friend he met on the internet to visit him. He introduces Bianca to his Brother Gus (Paul Schneider) and his wife Karen (Emily Mortimer) and they are stunned. They don’t know what to say to Lars or Bianca — because she is a life-size doll, not a real person and he is treating her as though she is alive. They consult the family doctor Dagmar (Patricia Clarkson) who explains this is a delusion he’s created — for what reason she doesn’t yet know but they should all go along with it. What follows is an emotional journey for Lars and the people around him.

I saw this at a premier tonight. I thought it was hysterical. It was a little strange, but I really, really enjoyed it.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Pretty dumb. We're suppose to believe that the local Shrink wants everyone to go along with Lars' belief that his dummy is a real person.

If some shrink told me to go along with it(you'll understand if u see the movie), I'd say "youre crazy too!!!"

I thought it was fantastic. You can believe anything you want. The film wasnt supposed to be taken that way. It was an essay in what would the world be like if we did embrace peoples neuroses instead of pushing them away. It was incredibly well written, well acted, and deserved FAR more attention than it got. Its much deeper than the silly premise. Its a feel good story without being cloying, like most. Id HIGHLY recommend this film to anyone who like original, off-beat films, and doesnt like to settle for standard hollywood clap trap.

And yes Jersey, it was hilarious, too. Loved it.

Says the man who prefers well done steak with A1....

You memory must be lacking. I do not prefer a well done steak. I do however like A-1 depending on the steak.

As someone who knows both of these guys, I would like to know why you get them confused. I see not too many similarities, lol.

BTW, I still think this movie was funny and almost rented it tonight. (Picked 21 instead.)

I know neither, so who knows. Maybe its the same reason i confused Mikes for Johns and Johns for Mikes all the time, too. Just the name...

Recently watched it. I thought it was a neat little movie. It had some very funny lines, especially from Paul Schneider, and some very touching scenes.

No doubt about it. You need to understand what sort of movie this is before watching it.

SPOILER: The real doll had 9 different faces which were used to show a sort of evolution of the character. The doll starts with a face with heavy make-up, but then later uses a more natural looking face without make-up. Finally, the doll's face becomes slightly green to reflect her "failing health".

Ha, I didn't even notice that.

I watched this over the weekend and the wife and I both loved it. I recommend it if you like indie movies at all.

If you are a summer blockbuster and cheesy comedy only kinda person then skip it.

Finally saw this - very heartfelt little movie. I love Ryan Gosling and I thought he did a great job. I don't know if this is a movie I would watch all the time, but it was cute.

One hour into this. Decent movie actually. Nothing earthshattering, but it is an interesting look into mental illness and people's actions to it.

Not supposed to be a straight comedy at all, in my opinion.
