It was a matter of time before LA's vaunted pitching staff started to break down. Dreifort is having knee surgery.

He had one healthy season - then he Borass-ed them!

What a joke

Someone should have the guy's ass who signed this clown to a $55 million deal. According to Jim Rhome he averages 4-5 starts per year and has had 3 knee surgeries including this one and 2 elbow ligament surgeries. Makes Stottlemyre look like Lou Gehrig.

I think his name was Kevin Malone.

Not only that but he was responsible for James Baldwin, Kevin Brown, Eric Karros, Mark Grudzielanek, Tom Goodwin, etc. In other words, there are teams who wasted even more money than the D'backs (Mets, Rangers, Tigers, etc.) usually by getting mid-level vets and/or bad luck.

IMHO, new GM Dan Evans is much better. I liked the way they consolidated their out-makers and bad problems down to one (Todd Hundley) who conveniently got on the 60-day DL.

However, there's an excellent chance that their pitching staff will suffer a cascade failure effect where innings pile up on each starter more & more. For example, Odalis Perez never threw as many IP as he did as last year, and his high-stress pitch counts are piling up in close games due to the low-wattage LA offense.

Exactly. Last week I commented that Kevin Brown and/or Dreifort hadn't pitched a complete season in, well, forever. Ishii and Perez tailed off greatly in the second-half last year.
