Just read the letter written by Dean Spanos tonight. He is staying in SD for 2016 and is recommitting to building a stadium in SD. I hope the Raiders end up in L.A. They will bury the Rams...
He also said he has an agreement in place with the Ram to share the new stadium if he can't make anything happen in San Diego. Since only one NFL team can play in the Coliseum, it is only logical that the Chargers stay there until the new stadium is ready. The Rams would have to let the Raiders play in their stadium since the owner is building it himself. The Raiders are not going to L.A.

The NFL felt compelled to issue a memo implying that there is no league position against Vegas and that any application for relocation would be evaluated using the same process that was just done for LA. And they encouraged teams not to comment on it.

The Oakland Raiders will seek relocation to Las Vegas if a domed stadium is built here, according to two reports.
Both Sports Illustrated and the Bleacher Report reported Monday that Raiders owner Mark Davis will pledge Thursday to move the team to Southern Nevada if a 65,000-seat stadium is built along Tropicana Avenue near the Strip.
Davis is scheduled to appear Thursday — the same day as the NFL Draft’s first round — at a Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee meeting at UNLV. A plan to build a $1.3 billion domed stadium will be discussed at that meeting.
The reports said Davis will promise Thursday to make the “Las Vegas Raiders” happen if the stadium is built. Multiple Review-Journal requests for comment from Davis were unsuccessful.
The stadium project is backed by casino operator Las Vegas Sands and Majestic Realty. In a preliminary funding plan, the companies proposed that tourist taxes cover about two-thirds of the project’s cost. Las Vegas Sands officials have said the project, which also would serve as the new home for the UNLV football team, is economically viable and would move forward regardless of whether an NFL team moved here because it would attract new special events and increase visitation.
The tourism infrastructure committee will issue recommendations this summer and does not have the authority to approve the stadium project. The use of tax dollars to fund the stadium would require the approval of the Nevada Legislature. Unless called into special session, the Legislature will not convene until February 2017.

Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole reported there is a growing sentiment among owners to allow the move, but some old-school owners such as John Mara of the New York Giants are against a franchise moving to Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, ESPN reported that the Raiders are close to selling out their season tickets for the first time in franchise history. Mark Davis said the team might “have a waiting list for season tickets for the first time.”
Raiders President Marc Badain said the team’s season ticket numbers in Oakland have grown from 30,000 in 2013 to almost 50,000 for next season.

How could a team being in Vegas, effect sports betting anymore than say....... a team being 3-4 hours drive from Vegas? (Cards/Rams)
Or any team anywhere for that matter?
What is it exactly that scares the NFL about this?
Is it just a majority of the owners, trying to keep any potential transients from reaping the massive benefits?
There are millions of Raider fans Nationwide, who would pick a Vegas/Raider game combo, over visiting Oakland 9.9 times out of 10.

This is gonna be really interesting to see how attendance is. So many factors.
On one hand, Vegas doesnt have the native population really to justify a NFL team. On the other hand, it could be like High School Texas football where they have nothing better to do, and so all games are sellouts.
At the same time, I would assume most games will be filled by visiting fans making it a combo "Lets go see the game/hit the strip" type trip.
Ultimately...I think its largely going to be a flop. It seems like Davis wants to go, and the strip wants the new attraction, moreso than the actual residents of Las Vegas want a team. So far I havent seen any Las Vegains(?) picketing for a new team.

I think some are underestimating the 2.1 million metro population of Las Vegas.
Cincinnati is just under 2.2 and it has an NFL team plus MLB.
Pittsburgh is 2.4 and has an NFL team, MLB, and an NHL team
And there are about 5 more multi-sport metro areas under 3 million.
How both the NFL and NHL would do in Las Vegas remains to be seen. But a domed stadium could host not only the NFL and UNLV, but conventions, boat shows, rodeos...a lot of things.

Most cities considered big cities have populations under 3 million. Philadelphia has 1.5 million people and have and support all 4 major sports plus MSL, the Arena Football League, indoor soccer when that was around, pro lacrosse, World Team Tennis, the AHL until a few years ago(the Phantoms now play in Lehigh Valley), several big named colleges, etc. Thing is, it's not just the city proper. Philly draws from South Jersey as well as Delaware. Hell, East Rutherford has like 10,000 people and has 2 NFL teams and until a couple of years ago had an NHL team(since moved to Newark) and an NBA team(since moved to Brooklyn).
