We get absolutely screwed in this....I would much rather have Mota or Penny or Lo Duca than Werth or any other prospects. I understand Werth isn't bad, but Mota, Penny and Lo Duca are proven major leaguers.

We're not giving up as much as LA or Florida, so we're not going to be getting the same amount of talent as they are. However, I wonder why we arent doing a trade with LA straight up since their minor league system is absolutely stocked full.

I'd love Penny and Lo Duca but realistically only in an RJ deal could we nab those caliber of players. I don't see why the Marlins and Dodgers are even including us in the deal. I also don't understand why the Marlins would be sending us prospects. Choi/Penny is very close to Mota/LoDuca/Encarnacion. I'm guessing Danny Bautista and/or Brent Mayne is involved somehow for us to be getting Werth and Marlin prospects. Let's hope Joe is getting some f'ing pitching in this deal if it happens.

PS - I doubt this trade happens. The Dodgers have great chemistry right now and DePodesta would be a fool to mess with that by giving up his starting catcher. But we'll see.

I was shocked to see those names floating around as well, we are talking about quality major league players for a rent-a-player. Generally, you are happy with prospects in the deal. If these teams are indeed talking about throwing around major leaguers, then we should be the team getting them. I still like Penny a ton, and I would put starting pitching ahead of our need for a catcher, which would be a close second. Although some people have developed a taste for Brito....

One tidbit - Jayson Werth is the nephew of Dick Schofield, Jr, who was last year (not sure about currently) coach of the South Bend A team.

We're giving up a 39 year old soon to be Free Agent that could simply resign with the D'backs in the offseason....

The local radio here in San Diego has the DBacks landing Lo Duca even without including Johnson.

From what I remember it was something like this:

AZ gets:
Jason Werth
Paul Lo Duca

FLA gets:
AZ prospects
Danny Bautista
Brent Mayne
Guillermo Mota

LA gets:
Jeff Conine
Brad Penny
Steve Finley

Personally, I don't think we'll pull the trigger until RJ decides if he will accept a trade to the Dodgers or not. If he does, look for a massive three way in which we essentially pillage the Dodger farm system and add a couple major leaguers. I'm also unsure whether DePodesta will trade Lo Duca and potentially damage the chemistry of the hottest team in basball by trading his starting catcher and pissing off Milton Bradley. But he's a rookie GM no one really knows what his style is.

EDIT: I'm not sure how reliable these radio guys are out here. For all I know I was listening to San Diego's version of Gambo.

We would actually give prospects to Florida, but it seems far-fetched regardless. One thing they did mention was how Garagiola is desperate to get a catcher via the Finley deal. The only reason Finley is not in SD right now is the Padres reluctance to deal Humberto Quintero.

Wait wait wait...We give up Bautista, Finley, Mayne, AND Prospects?! And all we're getting is Werth and LoDuca? I would pass on giving up PROSPECTS since we are REBUILDING!

I only watch the dodgers when they play the D-Backs - Lo Duca seems such an integral part of that team to get Jeff Conine, Brad Penny, and Steve Finley...I just can't see the equal value in the trade...

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. Apparently CJ has to approve of the deal, so we will see what happens.

If RJ accepts the trade to the Dodgers, this could be a monster. Don't be surprised if we have Lo Duca and either Brad Penny or A.J. Burnett on Sunday.

Yeah...one of those pitchers would be nice to put in as our no. 1.
