NASHVILLE, Tenn ― Florida basketball finds itself in prime position to secure a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
The Florida Gators (29-4) can lock it up with a win over Tennessee in the SEC Tournament finals on Sunday afternoon at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
UF moved up to No. 2 in the KenPom rankings with a 104-82 win over Alabama in the SEC Tournament semifinals on Saturday. Florida, Duke and Houston, all projected No. 1 seeds, are the only three teams in the country that rank in the Top 10 in the nation in offensive and defensive efficiency.
Florida remains at No. 4 in the NET on Selection, with a 10-4 record against Quad 1 opponents and a combined 19-4 record against Quad 1 and 2 opponents.
If Florida secures the top seed, it will be the third time in program history that the Gators enter NCAA Tournament with a No. 1 seed. The last time was in 2014, a season that ended with UF reaching the Final Four for the fifth time in program history, before falling to eventual national champion UConn.
ESPN's Joe Lundari projects Florida as a No. 1 seed in the West Region (San Francisco, Calif), opening NCAA Tournament play on Friday in Raleigh, N.C., against 16-seed Norfolk State.
CBS Sports.com's Jerry Palm projects Florida as the No. 1 seed in the West Region (San Francisco, Calif) opening NCAA Tournament play on Friday in Raleigh, N.C., against 16-seed Norfolk State.
