BATON ROUGE — LSU baseball reached the midway point in the Southeastern Conference baseball schedule last weekend at Auburn.

No. 7 LSU (31-6, 10-5 SEC) closed out the first half of league with being swept by No. 9 Auburn on the road, heading into the the last five SEC weekends with a sour taste in its mouth after opening conference play so strong.

LSU has two sweeps in SEC play so far, at home over Mississippi State and Oklahoma, both teams that are currently projected to make the NCAA tournament field.

Halfway through conference play, where does LSU stand in the regional projections? How much did the three losses at Auburn hurt them in the projections?

The sweep at Auburn had an impact on where pundits currently view LSU on the regional scale.

D1Baseball and On3 both have LSU outside of the top 8 national seeds, which means it would have to travel for the Super Regional round. Before the Auburn series, LSU was comfortably inside the national seeds in all NCAA tournament projections.

Baseball America still has LSU inside the top 8 but the Tigers are No. 8, meaning there's little margin for error right now. The home series against No. 15 Alabama (30-8, 8-7) at Alex Bos Stadium that opens Thursday night (7 p.m., EPSNU) is a big one with ramifications for the Tigers.

If LSU can win the series over the Crimson Tide, it should make its way inside or close to the top 8 national seeds in all predictions. Lose the series to Alabama at home and the RPI takes a hit and the Tigers fall further.

Baseball America: No. 8 national seed LSU 2. Arizona State 3. UTRGV and 4. Wright State; Matched up with No. 9 Oregon State regional.

D1 Baseball: No. 9 national seed LSU 2. Dallas Baptist 3. McNeese State 4. Fairfield; matchup with No. 8 Oregon State national seed regional.

On3: No. 13 national seed LSU 2. Dallas Baptist 3. Grand Canyon 4. Wright State; Matchup with No. 4 Tennessee national seed regional.
