I swear our front office is using NBA Jam as one of their hiring consultants.

Why? Because they interviewed Terry Porter? I don't get it.

Or is this just another lame attempt to bash Sarver and Kerr for no real reason?

I love Terry Porter as a possible HC here. Like Tucson Devil said i couldn't stand watching him,Drexler,C.Robinson,K.Duckworth,B.Williams and co beat us down in the late 80's early 90's.
Porter was a serious competitor and an intelligent PG not to mention a leader.
I like this.

Exactly. He's a good coach and very good with veteran players. He stresses defense as well. If he can get the Bucks to the playoffs and have the success he's had in Detroit, then IMO he'd be a good hire.

I could live with Terry Porter. I always respected his game and intensity.

Porter coached the Bucks in 2003-2005. In 2003-04 his team was 41-41; but they fell to 30 wins the following year and he was fired. A lot of people felt he was a scapegoat for some bad personnell moves.

The previous season George Karl had pushed for a deal that sent Ray Allen for Gary Payton and Desmond Mason. In the off season Payton left and Cassell was traded. During Porter's first season, Tim Thomas was traded for Keith Van Horn. I can't follow all the moves, but there were a bunch of them.

His fault? That's hard to say. It's not clear what their GM was trying to do, but it slowed the team down. In his first year, Porter upped the pace from only 19th in the NBA under Karl to 9th; but they slowed down his second season to 14th in pace when Ford was injured. http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/MIL/2005.html

With his experience in Portland and as a coach, it looks like he meets the Suns interest in someone who pushes the ball

For the few seasons, Porter has been an assistant coach with the Pistons.

Yeah its like the cliff notes version of being an NBA GM! You can probably do all that needs to be done from san diego! But seriously, Terry Porter was a very intense basketball player, one tough nut. He was also a very good defender if I recall correctly.

Kerr: "How about Dan Majerle?"
Sarver: "He's heating up!"

Kerr: "Oh Terry Porter and Drexler????!"
Sarver: "He's on fire!"

Sarver: wait dude!!! Drazen Petrovich hits everything, what's he doing?"
Kerr: " I think he's dead.....Dave???"

Griffen: "Died in a eurocrash."
Sarver: "meh, that sucks."

Kerr: "Got em......Sean Elliot!"
Sarver:"Boomshakalaka!"

I miss those brawls, now all we get are the extremes. Its either Artest donating haymakers to fans in the stands, or suspensions for relocating your feet over an imaginary vicinity line.

Those are my choices for possible candidates, a couple there have no chance obviously but just my opinion...

EJ = great knowledge of the game. if he REALLY wanted a shot, then i'd seriously consider.

Majerle = not a chance in hell. he's a great guy, but he lacks any discipline. he's that "cool dad", who lets you get away with everything....and you end up in jail.

Westphal = the ultimate "i lucked out" candidate. let an amazingly talented suns team to the finals...and the following years showed that he commands absolutely no respect from his players, and allowed an ever MORE talented team to lose control twice in a row in the semi's. not a chance i'd let him touch this team.

AJ = i'd seriously look at him. BUT, it would be like signing Cassell to a contract. in reality, we dont want him as part of us, and he probably does not want any part of this franchise. dont see him as even getting a look.

Thibodeau - dont know a lot about this guy at all, so i cant comment.

Gentri - no offense to anyone...but if Kerr is looking for a new guy, then he probably wants someone he hires himself. saying "we let D
Antoni walk, but we want someone just like him" just doent seem right.

Kerr - this move would be the ULTIMATE "i'm cheap" move by sarver. He' had NO GM experience....and by signing him after having NO coaching experience makes me sick. that is all.

------------------

I'll add my own here too

Sarver himself - he hired a puppet to do his bidding as GM. the LOGICAL thing to do would be hire himself as Coach. he'd bypass Kerr, his GM, and make every possible decision on this team for himself.

i'd become the worst enemy of the suns....but it would be comedy, just like the knicks for the past 4 year.

I like Porter. He has head coaching experience, he was a smart player. He seems to have leadership ability. He also is on the coaching staff of Detroit, which seems to be a stable, well coached team right now. Porter also likes an up tempo game but appreciates defense.

Yeah, I buy that one.

Sarver as coach would be interesting because the posters like Chaplin would be torn between blind loyalty to the owner and blaming the coach, that cobfliuct would be entertaining.
