LeCharles Bentley and the franchise tag. Likely? Some say no!

Dan Pompeii at TSN is reporting that the Saints are in no rush whatsoever and not inclined to worry to much about what might happen with Bentley.....implying that they may not rush to franchise him, if ever. There is no doubt that the franchise tag will be steep to use as a hammer.

Could it be that Bentley's "on record" comments of wanting out of New Orleans have not fallen on deaf ears.

It probably has more to do with the tag would cost 7+ mil for an interior lineman than his displeasure.

Have just read that Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that the Saints will not franchise Bentley.

Of course, one could add......who the hell is he and what does he know (which so many posters here like to caviat everything with), but he is one heck of a lot closer to the the pulse there than we are.

Not only is he one of the best in his postion. But he is high motor guy too. Infact, while playing for the Buckeyes in college, one of his teammates was slacking off in practice. Bentley got so pissed off about it that he actually punched the guy in the face!

he's #1 or 2 on my fa list his versatility would help imesely also,he is a probowl caliber player at 3 positions on the line. if we start him at c and a G goes down we move him to G and have leckey step in at c etc.

I can see it now, all the O-lineman sitting on the bench in their respective positions after another false start/holding/drive killing mistake. Bentley stands up and gives the other four lineman a "3 stooges slap" from Davis all the way over to Ross! Beautiful...
