Based on what I observed from today's FanFest, Leinart's arm is far better than advertised. IMO, it was the best of the bunch! All of his passes (whether short, intermediate, or long), were all right on the money and thrown with terrific zip. He throws a very tight spiral, and doesn't labor throwing to any spot on the field. He leads the receivers very nicely and looks very good in his drops.
We all knew about Leinart's accuracy in college, but I just don't remember him throwing with this much velocity while at USC. His passes today however, were a thing of beauty. He throws w/ great ease, and looks very smooth doing it.
Last year I was commenting to a buddy about Warner's deep ball... How we finally have a QB who can throw it accurately. I'm now rethinking my position based on how Leinart looks throwing the ball deep. Between Warner, Leinart, Navarre, and Davey - Leinart throws the most catchable ball. He throws it with tremendous accuracy, has the tightest spiral, and throws to every part of the field equally well. Basically a left handed Tom Brady!
While Warner throws a nice ball, his spiral tends to flutter tip to tip on the intermediate stuff. Navarre kind of slings it from below the shoulder, and Davey is all over the place eventhough he throws a decent spiral. Based on throwing ability alone, Leinart proved to me that he's at least the #2 QB on the depth chart. I know that picking up the playbook is another story all together. With his intelligence and experience, picking up the playbook and executing on game day will never be an issue.
Folks, I think we finally have our QBOF... And boy, wasn't it worth the wait?
