NFL | L. White a limited participant at Pro Day
Sun, 2 Apr 2006 14:57:23 -0700

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports USC RB LenDale White measured 6-0 3/4 and weighed 244 pounds at his Pro Day workout Sunday, April 2. White had 15 lifts, but didn't do any vertical or long jumps. He did not run.

He was 235 lbs. at the combine so he put on weight and did not even run. Glad we got Edge

Amazes me that guys cost themselves like that. How can you not get/stay in shape for 3 months after the season ends? His work ethic is becoming very Clarett-like.

He didn't even run a 40. The scouts have never seen him run a 40. I can't believe that he gained 9 lbs in one month as he weighed 235 at the combine at the end of February. There were rumors that he doesn't like to work out, I guess that is true. He likes to eat that we know. Amazing.

I wanted the Cards to draft White. Then I didn't want 'em to draft White because we got the Edge. Now I'm very, very, very happy that we're looking in other directions.

I was a White supporter. Now I still think he will be good, but glad we can go in another direction.

White was 238 at the combine and he reportedly was over 250 during the Rose Bowl loss. So he'd lost weight. The rumor was the reason he didn't run at the combine is he lost weight too fast, and wasn't going to run well because he was too weak. that's common, that's why Clarett's combine times were so slow he crash dieted.

I still think White will be a good RB but this is a bit silly, he had a month to get into reasonable shape, and the fact he apparently gained 6 pounds and didn't run has to make you wonder.

But he's one of those kids who's a good player no matter what his 40 time says. If he drops someone will get a good player at a bargain price. But he is being really dumb, he's costing himself millions of dollars.

I saw another report that said he had a sore hammy!! That is why he didn't run. However it did not say if he will reschedule a workout for a later day.

Aparently White was talking to the Steelers for over an hour. Talk about a match made in our nightmares.

I'm not so sure anymore. Big difference being a good college rb and having one of the best offensive lines ever versus the pro game. My concern is his lack of work ethic. If he is not willing to put in the effort, he will not make it. Perhaps the light will turn on when he hits training camp.

Look at Bettis, he hasn't been in good shape in years, and yet has had a HOF career. White was never in great shape at USC and yet was a great player.

White has talent, if he gets too fat ala Troy Hambrick his career will fizzle, but the guy is a lot more talented than Hambrick ever was I think he'll be a very successful pro.

I think he's costing himself money, but I also think a lot of NFL teams will be kicking themselves later if he slides.

I think it's a riot that there is a thread over 9lbs! The guy comes into "Pro Day" over his weight he was...who cares? Almost every reply says "It was rumored"...you guys have him in the Ryan Leaf category and having a 'bad work ethic' and the draft isn't even here yet...
There are always 'rumors' and such about players. A few years ago I seem to remember people saying (even on this board) that the Edge wasn't a 'team player' and things like that cuz he worked out away from the complex. He came into camp ready tho
So what if Lendale was over weight, he's not coming here, he'll make millions of dollars regardless and will probably be a pretty good back on the right team. He's a young kid, cut him some slack...lol

Wink wink, nudge nudge...who wants to bet that the Steelers want him, scouted him, told him they'd take him, and he just happens to not show up well at his pro day. Now, all of a sudden, he'll drop like a rock...right to the Steelers!

No damn way he does that stout. Every slot he falls is money through his fingers. That would just be plain stupid of him to be honest. I dont think he wants to go to the steelers so bad hes willing to lose a couple hundred thousand dollars or maybe even a couple million on his initial rookie contract.

i'm pretty sure white will do just fine in the pros. to those who think that white going to drop to the steelers are saddly mistaken. he won't get past the eagles. he is to good of a back to drop all the way to the steelers. if the steelers want him then they will have to tade up to get him.

If it's between losing a few hundred thousand and getting pounded into the turf on a lousy team, he may just do that. I don't know and neither do you, bro. I do think he'll slide, and I do not think he'll get past Pittsburgh, but I'm not sure if he'll slide that far. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

White should be a very good pro.Can you imagine the concern if the Cards still had him targeted at 10 and he did this? I guess the concern is is he going to be the next Bettis or the next Ron Dayne? It's not too hard to diet and keep yourself in shape especially considering you are in your early 20's. At that age you can pretty each junk all day and not gain weight if you put any effort into a workout. To me, it's a sign of being lazy.

It wasnt that he gained weight but more that he looked like crap. He did not pass the eye ball test at all, didnt pass the attitude test either.

NFL | L. White draws mixed reviews
Mon, 3 Apr 2006 05:23:34 -0700

Billy Witz, of the Los Angeles Daily News, reports USC RB LenDale White left some scouts with mixed impressions after his Pro Day Sunday, April 2. As noted earlier, a sore hamstring prevented White from running the 40-yard dash and all he did was the bench press. He did raise some red flags by looking out of shape. White weighed in at 244 pounds. White said he was disappointed he couldn't run or participate in receiving drills, and said he played between 235 and 240 this season. "I don't know how GMs view me," White said. "But if they know football, they know I can play football. Hopefully, I'll prove anyone who has doubts about me wrong." "I'm disappointed to see him not compete," said Tony Softli, the Carolina Panthers' director of college scouting. "I'd like to see him healthy and in his best shape, but then you've got to look at his DNA - his film. That tells you best." Another scout was more critical: "We all know he's a game-day player, but his attitude was nonchalant. He's got this sense of entitlement - he just doesn't get it."

He can still be a very good pro without a doubt I wont question that but to not even consider this red flag and all of his red flags while at USC will be a big injustice to your team.

I wish I could find the article -- but it was really, really good on why some very productive college players (with solid triangle numbers) fail at the NFL level --

the gist of it was that there are college players who are productive because of ability alone -- they dont work hard, they tend to be coddled by college coaches and the campus in general, and live in a very structured environment (practice time, meal time, study time, class time, etc).

These players get to the NFL, get paid more money they could ever imagine, and get in an environment where most of the onus on preparing for a game is on the individual.

If that person isnt dedicated, or to some degree a self motivated person, they end up being underachievers.

That is what would be scaring me about Lendale White right now if I were an NFL scout -- just how dedicated will this guy be when he has a first round signing bonus in the bank and hours and hours of free time on his hands.
