This has been over two years in the making for me..

Nothing has changed my mind that Cason should be our 1st round pick.. If anything he has proven more than what the doubters thought with his combine..

Time to bring in Cason!

I will say this --

between Talib and Cason -- I think its a push

Talib might be better athletically, but Cason is more technically sound

No that not it.

~ Hip fluidity
~ Speed

Sound familiar? Hmmm.

Here's another take on Cason's weaknesses.

Negatives: Shows good foot quickness, agility, and body control to turn, but he's not always fluid...Has quickness to accelerate on breaks, but lacks a strong burst and great top-end speed...Has a developing frame, but needs to add more bulk and strength, as he can be washed out of the play by a physical blocker when coming up to make a play in the box...Classroom work is only adequate...Plays with good toughness, but could be more aggressive and show more urgency at times, as he fails to get good hand placement on the receiver...Must get more physical and develop upper-body strength, as he is only adequate in attempts to press, failing to consistently impede the receiver's route progression...Shows good foot quickness and hip turn, keeping tight coverage, but isn't always fluid...Gets turned around at times and doesn't possess a burst or the top-end speed to recover (gets a bit narrow in his base, failing to clear his feet on the move)...Slips on his backpedal plant at times and while he has good acceleration, he lacks a closing burst (does not have the explosive speed to quickly recover)...Active in run support, but his effort in this area is inconsistent, as he does not have the power to deliver blow-up tackles...Hits and wraps up adequately, but fails to generate much power on contact.
Like I've said, him and Antrel Rolle are similar and their game is redundant in areas.

With that said, Cason's fundamentals are on point and he'll be a pretty good corner.

"Classroom work is only adequate"

Immediatly puts that scouting report in the crap pile. Cason is a film room freak and is always picking his coaches brains on schemes and technique. Scouts inc called him one of their top 10 best combine showings after hearing all of the scouts raving about his interview and white board X's and O's question and answer session that teams put players through. Dude is one of the smartest (football wise) players in the draft.

PFW had him (Cason) going in the 3-4th round... I think he was the 17th ranked CB in their pre-Draft magazine (that came out last week).

What about Flowers? He sounds like the second coming of Aeneas!

Sorry, but #16 in the 1st is too high for him. The end of the 1st or in the 2nd, then sold!

Agreed...although I can totally see us reaching and picking him too soon.

Cason is a projected 2nd or 3rd rounder. Would he be a nice addition? Sure. Should he be our first round pick? Absolutely not. This would be a very poor move for the Cards.

Cason is going to be a late first, early second round pick. If he's there at 50,i don't think there's any question the Cards will consider him. On another note, Talib seems to be slipping and may fall into round 2. Same with Porter, who i've now seen listed in round 3. I think the only sure-fire 1st rounders are McKelvin(the best, would love the Cards to get him),DRC, and Jenkins.

I think Cason will be gone in the first round. It would be nice to trade down a few spots, pick him, and get a another second.

Screw the projections of bad mock draft sites, he doesnt go any lower then the Giants in round 1.

who knows where he's going? This guy has been all over the board as much as anyone i can remember. I've seen him in as many 3rd rounds as 1st rounds.BTW, the Giants are taking Cherilus if he's there,at least i think they are :D.

Here's another take on Cason's weaknesses.

Like I've said, him and Antrel Rolle are similar and their game is redundant in areas.

I don't think him and Rolle are redundant at all. At UM Rolle did everything. He blitzed, he's great against the run and was a great bump and run guy in college. Rolle is an amazing athlete who can do many, many things to help the team. He simply isn't a pure corner, though.

Cason may be similar physically but skill set wise he's completely different. He is a pure cover corner. He's worked on both zone and man coverage. He can't tackle or blitz on par with Antrelle but he's much better at sticking with WRs.

I think the main reason Cason seems to be slipping in the mocks and in general player rankings is that there's a new flavor of the month. DRC had a great showing at the senior bowl and combine so he moved up and someone had to move down. Cason has good enough speed but other guys posted better, more exciting 40s. His team didn't have a surprise season like USF and Kansas.

Cason will go somewhere in the first round. The one thing you won't have to worry about is any off-field troubles. He has great character and has been a model student/athlete for his four years at the UofA.

By the way, Pac-Man Jones was projected a high first and look what the Titans got. This is where the scouts earn their money.

Pacman was a solid player....just an idiot off the field.

That's what I am saying. Cason is a solid player(Thorpe award winner) and whoever drafts him will not have to worry about him getting in trouble.

the official NFL time is 4.52 according to USA Today.

From the Tucson Citizen

"Former Arizona Wildcat Antoine Cason might have added to his list of accomplishments at the NFL combine.
Cason went to Indianapolis wanting to prove himself and show a solid 40-yard dash time.
It appears the cornerback, who won the Jim Thorpe Award after the season as the nation's top cornerback, did just that.
"Cason pleasantly surprised scouts, running his 40s in the high 4.4-second range," Sports Illustrated.com wrote Tuesday on the final day of the combine.
"He performed well during the practice session, displaying polished footwork and cornerback mechanics," the site wrote of Cason, who is projected to be drafted in the first or second round.
Cason was third among cornerbacks in the bench press with 21 repetitions at 225 pounds, third in the 20-yard shuttle time in 4.08 seconds, fourth in the broad jump at 10 feet, 8 inches and ninth in the vertical leap at 35-5."

I think he might be the Reggie Wells of the draft where the coaches will value him higher than everyone else.
