When Whiz came in last year he got on Matt about his footwork. Couple that with him being a young player and learning another new system he clearly wasn't decisive early last year and was thinking more than he was playing football. So far this year he looks very confident and relaxed.

I heard Matt on Sirius NFL Radio being interviewed by Jim Miller I believe. Matt said that his footwork has improved amd Miller asked him to say how it's improved and why hes better.

Matt candidly said that he got happy feet last year not because he was scared but because he had to think about his footwork. He said that he was seeing his reads but each different read can cause the QB to have to change his drop from lets say a 5 to a 7 step drop. Matt said he didn't realize at first how difficult that would be.

He said that you first have to read the defense. Then you have to know how to react to what your seeing. Then you have to know what the recievers are doing and then you have to know how to get in position to make the throw.

Thats a lot to be thinking about and he found himself having to think about his footwork on every throw and it caused him to not get set well on a lot of throws, hence the happy feet.

He told Miller that he has worked hard on everything and has a ways to go but now he's not even thinking about the footwork. He's worked on it hard enough that he doesn't have to think about it now, it's just second nature.

The less things he has to think about the better and he feels his footwork is just coming natural now and not forced. He feels way more comfortable back in the pocket.

Matt is going to be just fine. Matt just wants to get some snaps in as does Warner.

Bigdez22, It seemed Edge done really well early in the season last year getting the handoffs from Matt. But I know Matt can deliver downfield. I like the fact of him going deep when he is blizted.

Matt and the Cards were all confused last year as well as other areas of the team was and we were 8-8. (of course) This year is Matt's make or break year but I don't understand that either. He did sign a 6 yr. deal right? If Matt held a clipboard I wouldn't complain at all. As long as we continue to improve.

After watching the replay, it seemed Warner was better on this occasion. Nothing spectacular but his passes were all pretty accurate and the offense seemed to move well vs. KC's #1's. There was the play where Fitz cut "out" and Warner threw "in" that could have been a turnover but it's hard to tell who made the bad read. Other than that, I don't recall Warner forcing it into coverage or making any bad throws. The first throw of the game was probably underthrown by just a hair since Boldin had to to turn back to catch it but it didn't look like he had to slow down.

Leinart really struggled from what I saw. His passes were high and late in the first half and he nearly got Fitz and Urban both killed. He didn't look particularly comfortable in the pocket and made a poor decision in not protecting the ball better on the fumble. He certainly is building rapport with Breaston and in the 2nd half started to settle down a little bit. It's hard for me not to discount his efforts vs. the KC backups though and the very obvious shift to a dink and dunk passing game only highlights the very different strengths of each QB.

Warner completed a couple of 3rd and longs which were pretty nice and in my mind, something that the offense is going to have to deal with in real situations. He also completed a crossing pattern to Urban very similar to the one that Leinart completed to Breaston last week. If the pass protection holds up, it looks like that's going to be a popular play in 2008.

Overall, I think Leinart took a step back this week after his promising start last week. He didn't look comfortable or fluent or like he was running "his" offense when he was in with the "1's". I'm not sure that the short, safe passing game will remain as effective during the regular season and that seems to be what he's most comfortable with so far.

I'm going to let the Head Coach and OC decide who the starter is and I'll be behind the guy 100% either way.

Agreed.

Its simple to me
You go with Matt, The running game better be a top 10 unit this year or we will be 6-10

You go with Kurt, You are going to the strength of this Ball club, which is throwing the football.

Matt is going to get his chance and I hope he works out, but to me, It looks like we are trying to fit a square peg in to a round hole.

Whiz, self-admittedly, changed his run first style last year to "play to our teams strengths" what makes you think he won't do that again this year ? Also, he has spoken about how he know the team better this year, and what the team is good at. I suspect regardless of who is in, we will see a lot of passing this year.

"Warner’s third-down pass fell incomplete when he threw expecting Larry Fitzgerald to break inside and Fitzgerald instead broke outside.

Warner said afterward the play was his fault."

Just clearing that up. But I cannot wait to see the game tonight. I want to see how both guys did.
