Again, those are reasons teams won’t want to trade up. If this draft wasn’t so deep at WR/OT I could see a team being desperate enough for someone at #8.

In this draft, Simmons fell to 8 and Cards made them over pay for him since they wanted him for themselves.

is all that going to happen? no

but i stand by the idea that nearly every team picking #9-#17 has a plausible reason it may want to trade up.

If the Cards want to trade down, i think there will be opportunities. Heck -- CLE and NYG might believe that Andrew Thomas is the only true, day 1 starting LT in the four. Would they give up an extra 3rd to get that one player vs. hoping that Wirfs or Wills can move over? We will see.

The Cardinals have set up or have had a lot of meetings with prospects considered late 1st or early second round picks, that leaves me to believe that they are at least exploring the idea of moving down and have several of those guys on their radar if it happens. I think they probably have 2-3 guys they really like at 8 and if they are gone and they get what they consider a reasonable offer they will trade down. Whether that will turn out to be the smart move or not time will tell.

Keim trading down is suicide. Just take the BPA. Keim has shown he cannot draft well.

So let's say Denver trades 15 and 46 for our #8. I looked at a mock that had Denver take ILB K. Murrey at 15 and WR J. Reagor at 46. Would those 2 be better than, say, Wills or Brown?

at the risk of Harry not responding to me -- with multiple teams looking for OT help, they are likely to call Carolina under the conventional wisdom that AZ is a lock for OT.

I have seen many mock drafts where Simmons lasts until 7, but always gets taken by Carolina. The scenarios where Simmons makes it to 7, nearly all have the NYG taking an OT at #4.
So -- TB or a DEN gives up their 2nd because they know with one OT off the board, and AZ, NYJ and CLE coming up -- none will last until their pick, Carolina, in rebuilding mode, decides the extra pick is worth it.

Simmons drops to AZ.

The problem I have with trading back no further than the 13th pick is I'm greedy and want a 2nd round pick. The value chart doesn't work out for that trade to work. I don't know if there's a player at 8 that someone would overpay for except a quarterback.
You can get a second round pick if you add a fourth in the trade.

My #1 option is to stay at #8 and take an impact player like Simmons. If he is gone, I am 90% leaning toward trading down IF we can get a 2nd round pick (a 3rd is not worth it unless we are only moving down 1 or 2 spots).

Hopefully, teams will get desperate and compete with each other for the #8 spot but here is the trade value chart:

8th pick is worth 1,400

16th pick (Atlanta) - 1,000. They have a 2nd round pick (#47 worth 430). = 1,430
  • 5th round pick is typically in the 30 point range but we don't have one this year (maybe trade next years)?
15th pick (Denver) - 1,050. They have a 2nd round pick (#46 worth 440) - 1,490
  • We would probably have to return our 2nd 4th round pick (#131 worth 41) = 1,491

  1. If we trade down to 15-16, who would you want/who do you think will be there?
  2. Who would you want to pick in 2nd round (@46-47)?

Interesting option.

But the question is who would we pick at 15 or 16 and will they be an impact player?

You could give Atl next year’s fourth. The Cards have enough depth options there are at least 6 players who they could choose amongst.

Simmons or Okudah

Otherwise trade down is the most logical move

HENDERSON CB great cb with excellent lenght and skillset

K'LAVON CHAISSON OLB all the tools to be a star

ANDREW THOMAS OT one of the best tackle, ready to play from day 1 and coming from most competitive conference

RUGGS/LAMB/JEUDY WRS different skills but very talented

JAVON KINLAW DE/DT some Chris Jones potential

Yes, this.

I think trading with Denver is what is going to happen. They want Jeudy, we are the right pick to guarantee they get him, and their pick is high enough we can do it (15) without losing much at all.

I am not sure if okudah is worth picking at 8 or not - it would depend on the package we are offered to move down. Simmons on the other hand is a slam dunk to pick at 8.

We would not take K.Murray at 15.

We would take the best of Chaison, Kinlaw, the WR's or the 4 tackles, and 1 or more of those is guaranteed to be there.

My answer is I think we would be better off with that unless Simmons is available, who I think is a defensive stud.

2018 draft:

Buffalo traded up to 7 from 12 and got 2 2nd round picks.

Using original trade value chart:

7th pick plus 255th = 1,501
12th pick plus 53rd and 56th = 1,910 (Buffalo gave up more for a QB)

No. 7: Tampa Bay → Buffalo (D). Tampa Bay traded first- and seventh-round selections (7th and 255th) to Buffalo in exchange for Buffalo's first-round selection (12th) and two second-round selections (53rd and 56th).
