Marion on Dirk,
Raja on ? (Devon/Terry?)
Oh! Kurt's going to be back as C. So he takes Damp/Diop
Diaw on Josh Howard

Nash in the heads and under the skin of the Mavs.

Dung on Cuban's face.

Expert analysis is left to the experts here.

btw, nice sign in the stands today. Something to the effect of :
"Hey Charles,
T oo small,
N o rebounds?
T rip to round 3
"

If we would have had to play the spurs, we would have no shot...but the Mavs, we actually might have a chance

Will Phoenix get any love from the experts? I doubt it and I hope no one picks the Suns over the Mavs because they play better as the underdog.

C: Diaw..............Howard F
F: Thomas..........Diop C
F: Marion............Dirk F
G: Bell................Terry G
G: Nash..............Harris G

Kurt Thomas will be off the bench.
Barbosa should give them fits off the bench.

Stackhouse, Van Horn, Daniels will give the Suns a hard time too, good thing 5 players can only be on the court per team at a time. :)

Kurt can come back with little to no worry now. Both the Mav C's are slow and unathletic. Kurt coming off a 3 month layoff will already be at speed with both of them. It could be basically a 4 on 4 game on the offensive end, so it would open up the floor for our penetrate and kick out style. This allows Marion and Diaw to play in the frontcourt. Marion on Nowitzki means we los about 8 points per game in that battle, but Diaw on any of their 3's gives us a 10-12 point per game advantage when you factor in the assists.

If I'm D'Antoni, I start Nash-Bell-Diaw-Marion-Thomas and bring TT, Barbosa and Jones off the bench. The slow-footedness of their 5's is a HUGE advantage for us in this series, especially beause it allows Kurt to work himself into the game from the first game....

Suns in 6 again....

Steve Nash - MVP!

Shawn Marion - 4/5 30 point games - SICK! SICK! SICK! Guy nutted up harder than I thought was possible.

I don't know if we can beat the Mavs, but I KNOW we couldn't beat SA - BRING IT ON BABY! BRING IT ON!

Why wasn't KT in uniform tonight? Was the tell-tale practice bad news?

He sat on the sidelines in a suit next to Amare.

Grant and Burke might actually be able to get in and give the guys a breather in this series....

Worst case scenario is if the Mavs start a smaller lineup and we can switch the Thomases and still have an advantage....

Frankly, I'd prefer Tim Thomas manning up on Dirk so Marion can contain Howard from going off. Yes, Tim may give up 3-4 more points to Dirk than Marion would, but Marion could shut down the Mavs hybrid GF players making a bigger advantage when all is said and done....

I do not think KT will start any of these games, and I will be surprised if he plays a lot in the first few games.
He could not play tonight, the next game is Wed..........TWO DAYS!!

I just hope KT can play a few minutes a game, we need his defense and toughness as soon as we can get it.

This series is going 7. Last year wasn't as one-sided as many people seem to remeber it being and the Mavs will have homecourt advantage. And once you get there, anything can happen in Game 7. I have a feeling this might be the Mavs year though, Dirk just has that look about him and they have been so close for so long. It usually takes a couple years to finally get over the hump which leds me to think next year is the SUns' year. Hope I'm wrong though.

Who here remembers Avery Johnson taking that hilarious spill in the first game against us last year?

Absolutely not. Shawn Marion is one of the hardest covers for Dirk in the entire league, and Shawn defends Dirk better than 98% of the NBA.

First comment about this series.

So much for the "That style works in the reg season but not in the playoffs" crap.

Both the Mavs and the Suns play "that style" and everyone else has gone home.

Second, one of the toughest things to beat in the playoffs is good shooting. When you have 5 shooters on the floor, and they're rested, the other team is in trouble. They can defend the rim, and they can defend 2 guys on the perimeter, but they cannot keep one of the 5 from getting open, especially when a team passes as well as we do.

Its just a deadly combination.

No matter how much people dislike Doug Collins, he made some very good points this evening about our spacing vs. help defense. It's a killer--he said we punish good defense. That's as good a description as any.

I feel bad for Michael Finley. Did the basketball gods play a cruel joke on him or what?... :(

He's a good guy and deserved better.

I don't think KT will play much, D'Antoni will try to run Diop and Dampier with Diaw, much like Kaman... He will want to use the match up to our advantage speed wise.

5 games in 97-98 - how could you possibly have forgotten? :D

I think the Suns match up better against the Mavs, but I have no illusions. It would be an incredible upset to beat the Mavs the way they are playing.

That being said, I'm not sure anyone could be more dominant that Brand was this past series. It was not just poor defense, he was hitting some amazing shots. Dirk is not likely to cause as much trouble as Brand and he could still kills us.

The matchups will be very different than with the Clips. The Mavs centers are not going to be able to score like Kaman, but are almost certainly better on defense because Kaman is awful. For the Suns to win, they have to do a much better job shooting their outside shots than they did against the Clips in order to run their centers off the floor. Still, the Mavs have a lot of very good players who can shoot the lights out.

I agree. But it's his fault for not coming to the Suns. :D

Seriously, what's with Dallas fans booing him? That is sad.

Hey, elindholm, you asked about it in the chat...

I found this from the espn game notes..

"Phoenix also made consecutive trips to the conference finals in 1989 and '90"

The revelation from game 7 win against the Clippers: We have a solution of the Nash dilemma and could be become invincible the rest of the playoffs for the first title in Suns' history.

The Nash dilemma is that when Nash plays too long and handles the ball too much thus subjecting to constant hounding and pounding the whole game long, he wears out over the course, either of the same game, or of the series, or of the whole playoffs. With him clanking, turning balls over, the whole team loses confidence with him.

In game 7, we did a couple of adjustments, maybe just out of necessity, but with huge positive implications.

1. Nash handled the ball much less than usual. LB and sometimes Diaw did it with Nash spotting on the 3-pt lines. I think he made at least 3 3pt shots by catch and shoot. Two positive effects are induced. For one, he saved a lot of energy. Secondly, Ross become useless for them. Since we had always some kind of mismatch on offense too, we kept pressure on the other defenders and Nash's 3s were results that Ross had to help out else where.

2. We actually controlled the tempo, particularly in the second half, and only occationally did the Suns benchmark fastbreaks to keep the defense honest that achieves the effect to tire them out a bit.
As a matter of fact, Clippers and Mavs are deep teams. Maintaining an absolute high speed throughout every game is a two-edged blade and may backfire like we saw how painfully Nash played in the 3 games before game 7 with a short bench as we have.

So, saving our own energy by selective fastbreaking should become the norm against the Mavs.

3. With more duties for LB, Diaw, they have a chance to become even more confident, and thus our offense much harder to figure out. With fresh legs, Nash could take over the game if other options ain't working due to defense adjustments. So, with the same personell, we can kind of play deeper and with more variations.

Anyways, we shouldn't make it a trackmeet against the Mavs. Besides Nash, one of LB, TT, and Diaw may have a slight matchup advantage on offense. We should exploit them more methodically. With Nash rested and reserving the energy to take off anytime, we have a good chance to beat the Mavs and the Pistons or Heats.

More specifically, Diaw will cause problem for Mavs no matter whether Dampier/Diop or Howard cover him. The same with TT, though he'd not have enough stamina to back down Howard/Stack in the low post and still finish strong. LB should learn how to gain adv. against Harris/Terry over the course.

Oh, with fresher legs, Nash's defense as the weakest link on the team is also much better.

Suns in 6! Go Suns!
