Hey, elindholm, you asked about it in the chat...

I found this from the espn game notes..

"Phoenix also made consecutive trips to the conference finals in 1989 and '90"

Thanks, I found that too, but a little confirmation never hurts.

The Mavs centers are not going to be able to score like Kaman, but are almost certainly better on defense because Kaman is awful

There is no one on the Suns' roster for the Mavs centers to guard. None of them can follow TT out to the 3 pt line or stay with Diaw off the dribble. I think Dallas will need to go small and start Dirk at C with Stack in the lineup and they will run with us.

I think this is going to be a really interesting series. The Suns have to show up and compete on the boards. If they do I say Suns in 6.
I don't want to see a game 7 on the road.

Of course then the Mavs just won one against the Spurs.

Man, Mavs just beat Spurs. They have all the confidence they need and motivation to revenge.

I really hope Nash can advance to Final FINALLY.

PS: Does Mavs have home court advantage in this series because they have better record?

I am looking forward to probably one of the most entertaining series since the run and gun years of the NBA back in the 70's . I hope neither team palys defense. 300 point games. Yah baby.

P.S. Who was the blonde well endowed babe sitting behind Mark Cuban in the 7th game? She was major endowed, blonde and well tanned. Hope he brings her to the Suns/Mavs series.

Interesting things going on in this series. I don't believe Dallas can run with the Suns, but they don't play well in a slow down game.

Its like last night when the Suns got the lead. The Clips can only beat the Suns by slowing it down, but you can't slow it down when you are 15 pts behind with 5 minutes to go.

For the Mavs to beat the Suns, they have to play a game that they are not comfortable playing.

Plus, Dirk traditionally struggles against Marion.

Oh, and the Mavs have no answer for LB.

I know the Mavs should be favored, and thats probably right, but we couldn't have asked for a better playoff scenario.

This should be a fun series, but I see the Mavs taking it in 6. While we do matchup well with them, they are simply on to much of a roll IMO.

Remember the Mavs are probably the only other team in the league capable of running an entire game at our pace(maybe the spurs too), and they also have a size advantage for getting offensive rebounds....which I believe is the real key to beating us.

The one thing I will say about this series, is that our suns have really pulled together, and they guys truely believe they can roll with anybody. That does count for something, and it showed in them pulling out two tough 7 game series. We'll see what happens, either way Ill be proud of the team's season, as they were never expected to do anything.

No matter how much people dislike Doug Collins, he made some very good points this evening about our spacing vs. help defense. It's a killer--he said we punish good defense. That's as good a description as any.

Collins also said that TT is a key to the suns ability to create space in the lane. IF the suns go small, who will guard TT? If its Howard, Van Horn, Daniels, Terry or Harris, TT can just post them down low. IF its Diop or Dampier, it will get ugly in a hurry for the mavs. I dont think that Dirk can guard TT, but he may be the best bet for the Mavs. Diaw could also be a BIG problem for everyone except maybe Howard.

Suns in 6.

The NBA is all about matchups and the Mavs and the Heat are the two elite teams we match up best against.

Marion guards Nowitzki better than anybody. I know Dirk averaged about 29 a game against us this year, but hes a legit superstar and i would be willing to bet the majority of those points came in the first three quarters before marion MUST get stops to when, and then he usually does. No one gives Dirk the trouble Shawn does due to his length, jumping ability, and speed. Watch this matchup closely, and although Dirk may have good numbers, I'll ask at the end if he was the reason his team win or lost.

Mavs think they can run with us. BUt they can't. Nobody can. I like Bell to slow down Terry and Harris and Nash to take the off guard position. The Mavs will go small as Diop and Dampier can cannot keep up with us or Boris and that will play right into our hands defensivly.

I like our coach. AJ looks like a great one in the making but what these last two years have helped me done is appreciate D'Antoni. Hes a genius. He knows how/when to push his players and the refs. He sdjusts well. He draws up great inbounds and end of game plays. I only wish he could motivate the team better when they are not in a must win situation. That will come.

Nash factor. Defense is not the wing guys strong suits in Dallas and he will run wild. It remains to be seen if they double team him like the Clippers but you think the MVP is ready to play this team for a trip to the Finals on the line....?

Our chances go up dramatically if KT can be effective in some capicity but I do like us in this series. especially with all the mojo we have been garnering these last two rounds. These guys believe. I say we would have lost to the Spurs in 5 but we will beat the Mavs in 6. Count on it.........

This is the best team we have faced yet but i think that we match up better with them than we did the Clippers and we beat them......

Can't wait....

my take on the situation: matchups

when avery puts

terry
stack
howard
dirk
damp

how will we counter? nash HAS to guard terry in this case, and that's not good.

on the other side, whoever damp is on must get hot from outside, most likely diaw.

i will really enjoy watching this series

Who on the Mavs can we "hide" Nash when we are on D?

Before, there was Finley...but now?

First comment about this series.

So much for the "That style works in the reg season but not in the playoffs" crap.

Both the Mavs and the Suns play "that style" and everyone else has gone home.

No. Didn't you hear Barkley last night? The Mavs used to be the Suns until they learned how to play defense. Now they are legit and were the best team in their series versus San Antonio. He acted like he picked them all along. According to Charles the Spurs and the Mavs have been the best teams in the West for the last two years. That's strange considering we beat the Mavs last year. The better team always wins in a seven game series, right chuck?

He also said that the Suns style is only good enough to get to the Western Conference Finals. Far from his predictions that he made for us against both LA teams.

My point is that the commentators will continue to raise the bar on the Suns until they win it all. First it was, "the Suns style won't work in the playoffs." Now it's "the Suns style is only good enough to get to the WCF." If the Suns beat the Mavs they will set the bar higher and if they win the title it will be a fluke.

The suns are the most dangerous unpredictable team in the nba right now. Sometimes they lose by 20 or so but they can shoot like garbage, have lower scoring games against strong inside teams, they can be outrebounded by 25 or 5, shoot barely any free throws or shoot a ton, have the opponents shoot a heap of more free throws, and in any of those cases still win. Other times they can shoot the lights out and/or shred your defense and beat you by 20 points.

It really is going to come down to how tired the suns are and basically how well they execute compared to the mavs.

I see the Mavs in six - unless we can steal the first one. Then the Mavs win in seven.

That Dallas win yesterday had to be exhausting, whereas ours was easy. We might be able to steal the first one.

Suns in 7..

I refuse to limit my expectations for this team. I surely can't bet against them now.

Didn't you predict the Clippers to sweep us? ;)

Barkley is an idiot. I specifically remember hearing him putting down the Mavericks after the Suns killed them in April. Laughing at the fact that they play ZERO defense. He changes his mind so many times that I refuse to take him seriously. If it were up to me, his fat ass would be out of the ring of honor.

I'm actually predicting a Mavs let down tomorrow. The Suns will win by 5+.

As far as who will take the series? I honestly have NO idea.

national commentators, pessimisstic suns fans and even fans of other teams can say what they want. The answer Sportscenter feeds people natioanlly and past NBA tried and truisms have been thrown out for this series..

I have absolutly no bias and I KNOW my NBA......

The Suns can absolutly win this series and its pretty much a toss up IMO with some slight advantages either way. But everyone immediatly discounting the Suns is naive. I will say it again. It's all about matchups

We can beat:

Heat
Mavs

We cant beat:

Pistons
Spurs

and i believe everyone on the Suns believes they can win this too which i wouldnt say was the case if we played SA. Don't listen to the propaganda guys in the "know". I am telling you Suns fan, it is not myopia, despite what people in basketball will tell you. You have to watch this team on a day to day basis to appreicate. They aint world beaters, but the can beat the Mavs. I see no sceanrio in which Dallas beats us in less than 6 and would bet if they do, it takes 7.......

But we will see....I know this team and i know the Mavs......its going to be fun.....

What I didn't like hearing from Barkley last night was that the Mavericks and the Spurs have been the two best teams in the playoffs for the last two years.

Hey Charles, here's a newsflash: we knocked the Mavs out in 6 last year and are going to knock them out again.

Speaking of commentators. What bothered me most about Pippen's comments about Nash was that he kept calling us the Phoenix "Sun". It's the Phoenix Suns you idiot.
