Mar. 28—In their first trip out for 2025, the Libby Loggers tennis teams immediately selected the "hard" difficulty setting by traveling to state tennis power Polson on Friday while also facing Hamilton.
The boys came away with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Polson while falling 5-2 to Hamilton. The girls, despite battling hard, were swept by Polson.
Beagle leads the charge for Logger boys
Defending Class A singles state champion Ryan Beagle showed why he is one of the top players in the state, delivering a dominant performance against Polson's Ruger Ellis with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Jonathan Cano added a crucial singles win for Libby, winning his match, 6-2, 6-2.
It was the doubles play, however, that clinched the victory.
Libby's Alex Reatz and Cole Sunell's straight set victory, defeating Brody Kline and Oliver Metias 6-0, 6-3. Loggers' Kale Hall and Isaac Lamere sealed the team victory with a clutch win over Truman Sawyer and Parker Henriksen, 6-2, 7-4 (4).
Against Hamilton, Libby struggled to keep up, but Beagle continued his strong play, securing another singles victory. However, the Broncs proved too deep across the board, taking the match 5-2.
Libby girls show grit despite tough competition
The Libby girls faced a tough Polson squad and, despite strong efforts, fell 7-0. Aubrey Davis played a competitive match against Polson's Baylee Lemm but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-2. Bella Meyer put up a fight against Vivian Grainey, but Polson's depth proved too much, with Grainey winning 6-1, 6-3.
Claire Fantozzi took her match to three sets, battling Maddie Lake in a back-and-forth contest. Despite her resilience, she came up just short, falling 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 11-9. Jill Stewart also put forth a valiant effort but was unable to get past Ziya Walker, losing 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles action, Ashlenn James and Shya Huck took the first set against Polson's Josie Henriksen and Karly Smith, eventually losing 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.
