The Tampa Bay Lightning are one of the top teams in the NHL right now. At this point of the season, they have a 39-23-5 record and are just two points behind both the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs for the top spot in the Atlantic Division standings.
A significant reason for the Lightning's success has been the incredible play of Nikita Kucherov. The 31-year-old winger has once again been the Lightning's top offensive contributor this season, and he is now nearing a massive accomplishment because of it.
Kucherov currently has 29 goals and a team-leading 66 assists in 63 contests this campaign. With this, he is at 95 points this campaign and needs just five more to hit the 100-point mark for the third season in a row.
Only the NHL's best offensive players reach 100 points in a single season. Therefore, it is remarkable that Kucherov is so close to doing so for the third year in a row and the fifth time in his career.
When noting that the Lightning still have 15 games left this season, Kucherov has plenty of time to get his 100th point if he stays healthy.
