I think now that Gonzo and Finley are gone they should put Bautista in left, Terrero in center and Hairston in right. They said Alomar will be playing more so why not put Scott in right and see how he performs.

Tracy is getting more comfortable and it looks like he is there to stay. Cintron is a question mark. He has not hit like many have expected and his fielding is average at best. This is an area the team needs to address in the offseason. I am looking forward to seeing how Hill does these last two months. If he does well enough he should be the #1 catcher going into spring training.

Still no word on Steven Drew - maybe now that the trade deadline craziness has passed...
I drove down to El Paso yesterday specifically to see our future corner outfielders. Though several times I've said it'd be a big mistake to rush these guys, Zona - well, having seen them, I think Conor Jackson and Carlos Quentin are a LOT closer than one would normally think for 2003 draft picks.

At 22, Conor is a grown man, not a kid, and he looks ready to roll. Quentin looks a little bit younger physically, but he's a pretty mature player already. They both look really polished compared to most of their teammates. I'm thinking they both make the bigs next year, not 2006. I could picture Conor up here this week, he's already way ahead of anyone we have in Tucson.

I cannot WAIT till AZFall League.

Yeah, i definately like the idea of letting Hairston play OF. Problem is i would play Bautista in RF because he has a great arm, and play Hairston in LF. I dont see the added benifit of putting Bautista in LF as opposed to RF.

Then we play Alomar, and at least showcase him until he passes through wavers and we can try to trade him. Maybe hed even start to pick it up a bit.

Other than that we have to be prepared to keep on losing.

My wish for a line-up

1) CF Terrero
2) 2B Hairston
3) 3B Tracy
4) LF Banks
5) RF Quinton
6) 1B Hillanbrand (insert someone else?)
7) SS Cintron
8) C Hill
9) P They all can't hit & some can't even pitch :D Randy Johnson :violin:

I don't understand the idea of playing the same old retreads that have provided the awful season so far. I am more likely to go watch a game with a lineu-up of the future.

im glad you got a chance to see hip play as i mentioned in an earlier post i felt he is ready for a september call up. after watching him for 3 years at cal, and a few games at lancaster, you come away amazed at his maturity level, and the way he swings the stick.when i watched him in college he was at 3rd base,at lancaster he was in right.i guess he might be worth that player option there going to use on him.

Even the September call-up will be fun since unlike the past few years, I think we will see alot of the call-up players getting PT. Should be fun to watch.

I was told by someone inside the organization not to look for Sept call-ups. The reasons are explained by SchillingFan on another thread - basically it starts the clock ticking on things like options and even free agency, plus costs the team money, so unless a guy can really help a team, there is a trend for limiting Sept call-ups nowadays.

We may see more young guys before Sept though, since my guess is Bautista, Elmer, Alomar, maybe Shea may figure in deals and be put through waivers before Aug 31st.

(Question - let's say we have a deal to trade Danny for a pretty good Double-A prospect. He has to clear waivers for the deal to happen. If he doesn't clear, do we just pull him back, or do we try to cut a deal with the team that claimed him?)

Conor Jackson has been playing Left field since we drafted him, btw, except a few spot starts and late-switches at third since D'Antona went down injured. Our outfield is going to be awesome in a year or two. Reasons not to bring him up now - 1) we'd be stuck with Gonzo as a very expensive bench player next year, 2) would mess with Jackson's 2005 ROY status, 3) we wouldn't get to see him for two months in AZFL.

Ok, so lets say Danny, Elmer, and Shea all clear wavers. Clearly we should think about aquiring a RF or SS for next season as well as a SP currently already established in the majors. I dont think we want to have 3 second year players and 1 rookie starting every single game NEXT season too.
