Found this on the bronco board, doesn't say but I assume this just means players under contract so some of the teams with tons of caproom simply have tons of players reaching FA. We're #7 on the list.

We will vault up to #1 very shortly...we have all our RFAs signed with the exception of a few lesser salary guys and Barrett.

I though we had only 10 mil left for next year. Where did trhe other 7 mil come from? If this is true WOW we will be able to get 3-4 good FA's. Does anybody have the salary list for us. It was up last year but not anymore.

My guess is this figure does NOT include the rookie pool allotment(probably close to 4 million picking at #3) and it accounts for players that are going to be FA's, so it's basically the total cap figure for all players under contract for NEXT year. So we can free up more room by cutting or redoing contracts, or we can reduce the caproom by signing people. That's why I pointed out other teams are ahead of us because they have so many FA's, Baltimore is a perfect example of that they only have a lot of caproom because they have so many FA's.

Another reason why I would love to see us pursue Al Wilson from Denver, they are listed as being 2.3 million OVER the cap, and they have to deal with Portis' contract, my guess is they're not going to be able to keep Wilson without some really clever restructuring and cutting of players. the easy answer is to say just franchise the guy but they can NOT franchise Wilson because in order to use the tag you have to be under the cap by enough to include the franchise amount. You can't just use the tag when you're over the cap, so if they want to take Wilson, they have to free up about 8 million in caproom before doing so to get under the cap and free up the necessary amount, that's not easy to do.

Russ is right.

Be very very careful. Each year, at various times, the pundits start throwing cap figures around like frisbees and we get all excited . Of course, they forget little items such as the rookie pool. By the time we're ready to spend on free agents, a $10 million cap figure has often dwindled to a few million or so.

True but Ryanwb is correct that in a few months we're going to be a LOT closer to #1 than #10 because we have fewer players that we have to resign than most of the teams ahead of us on that list.

For example let's say McAllister just gets "market" to stay in Baltimore, even a clever contract is probably going to have a 4-6 million dollar capfigure for 2004, they have something over a dozen guys about to be UFA or RFA's, take away 1/6 to 1/5 of that for McAllister and it becomes really hard for them to sign them all. My guess is if they keep Chris and allow for the rookie cap you're talking more like 16 million in caproom to fill the remaining 12 or so spots they will have available.

We really are in a very good situation capwise, IF we can actually convince good FA's to sign here.

Russ..funny you mention Al Wilson. When I was looking over the free agents available this offseason I thought he was a guy we should target. He played with Raynoch Thompson at Tennessee - I figure that cannot hurt when we are going after free agents (both linebackers)...although Vonnie Holliday played with Freddie Jones and Russel Davis (and that appears to have meant nothing as I think he never really considered us)...

ON the Bronco board I read they're split down the middle, either you consider WIlson the MUST sign guy on the team, or you figure hey we drafted Terry Pierce to replace him, he wants too much money, we can't sign him, redo Portis' deal and upgrade elsewhere so let him go. With the injuries to Gold and Mobley they may be less willing to let Wilson walk.

TErrific player even if he was one of the guys who forgot to touch Marvin Harrison yesterday. You look at the money we have invested in McKinnon and Darling and you can say why sign another MLB, but those guys are simply not in the same league as Wilson as a MLB. Sign him, with Thompson, Fisher, Hayes etc and you're absolutely set at LB for a few years. They'll all be on the small side but talk about team speed.

You can bet he'll NEVER fail to touch a player down again.

He's at the top of the second tier of MLBs, IMO. Obviously, you have Lewis and Urlacher in the upper eschelon, then you have a guy like Wilson.

He's much better then Ronnie Mac or Darling (I'd put both those guys at the top of tier three or the bottom of tier 2--of course this is the Pariah tiered system, which isn't universally recognized as a valid player evaluator...).

Jevon Kearse, anyone?

The Titans are in a major bind next year - $16 million over the cap - and that does not allow for rookies. They are going to have to do some big trimming/re-working.

That's the first thing I noticed. No way the Titans can keep Kearse at this point. Okay never say never but it looks like Kearse will be available.

If you want a pass rushing maniac he is the man. He has had some injuries lately but if he passes the physical then get him signed.

Good information Russ and sort of helps explain why we are lousy. If we do not spend the money we have to acquire players it is no wonder we do not get any results. I read or heard Mr. B was saving his money for the stadium.

Dback Jon, and Cardiac....

You guys stole my thunder! :)

Kearse is exactly what I thought, when I saw that list.

Throw the checkbook at him and a premere Tackle, and I'll be happy.
