Livvy Dunne is saying goodbye to gymnastics.

After the LSU Tigers finished third in the NCAA semifinals on Thurdsay, April 17, Dunne — who couldn't compete in the meet due to injury — shared a message on X as she leaves her sport behind.

"Couldn’t have asked for a better 5 years! Thank you, LSU," the gymnastics star, 22, wrote shortly after the meet. In a second post, she said, “✌️ out gymnastics it’s been real… and of course forever LSU!"

The replies to Dunne's goodbye were filled with admiration and well wishes for the gymnastics star. "I have loved watching you and will miss your smile and your spirit. Thank you for the memories," one user wrote, while another said, "We love you and are heartbroken for you and the team."

Dunne was forced to sit out from the competition after suffering an avulsion fracture in her kneecap on March 6.

In an interview with PEOPLE earlier this month, Dunne said she was doing "everything" she could to be able to compete with her team one last time. "It is such a weird injury," she shared. "Usually patella fractures are from a direct blow to the knee, but mine is from overuse, which you don't really see very often."

"And really the only thing I need is time for it to heal... and it feels like it's been forever," she continued.

She also told PEOPLE how she's planning to spend her time away from gymnastics — including more time with boyfriend Paul Skenes. "I'm super excited to be able to spend time with Paul. I've always had to train during my summers and stuff... So to be able to not have to do gymnastics training and be able to spend more time in Pittsburgh with Paul enjoying the baseball season, I'm looking forward to that," she said.

Dunne won a championship with the Tigers in 2024 and has skyrocketed to social media fame during her time at LSU, becoming one of the top NIL athletes in the country.

In 2023, her net worth was at an estimated $3.5 million, according to the On3 NIL 100 list. She became the top-earning NCAA female athlete after the NCAA agreed to the new Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) policy in July 2021, allowing student-athletes to accept sponsorship deals.
