Is his injury a herniated disk, much like the Ram's Kyle Turley is experiencing??

If it was a herniated disc, they would be doing surgery. Like Gruttadauria had in his neck a few years back. A few days ago, the report was LJ's back would get better with rest and that epidurals were a possibility. That prognosis goes with bulging discs, not herniated ones.

I guess we'll be putting another starter on PUP/IR. If either Jackson and or Starks end up on PUP, we could end up with 7 starters out for either the 1st six weeks or the entire year. No other team can claim this misfortune.

Just to clarify, you cannot place anyone on PUP after camp begins. The only options after camp starts are active roster or IR. Starks and Dexter will either be on the roster or out for the season, there is not middle ground. Had Dexter not tried to go in camp, he could have remained on PUP, but when he started practicing, he couldn't go back.

That's really sad!

In these times of increased personal turnover, Shelton is one of the few players who have been here for a while, having a good identifications with the fans.

One little question now: with LJ heading to IR, who's going to back up the offensive tacles spots?

Interesting. Didn't know that. Thanks Luke.

Dexter couldn't go on PUP because you can only do it once. Once you've been placed on it you can't come back, then go back onto PUP....you have to go on IR. ESPN's NFL page just said the Cowboys put Darren Woodson on the PUP. I thought the PUP is eligible all the way until the season starts, but not after that. HOWEVER, you can only go on the PUP once, and Dexter had already been on it this year.

Since LJ told Jurecki about his bulging discs and Jurecki reported it on the radio, I feel I can now discuss the problem freely.

LJ has been battling the entire camp and preseason with back spasms caused by two bulging discs in his lower back. He didn't know what was causing the pain and practiced anyway, desperately trying to make the team.

Finally, he couldn't even get down into a three point stance and told the medical staff about the problem. The Cards doctors diagnosed the bulging discs.

LJ was given rest, treatment, and specific exercises. About a week later, he was back at work, hoping to win a starting job at guard.

Didn't work out.

LJ Shelton is a damned fine human being and an ASFN regular. His health and career are now at risk and I have violated his confidence by telling you this but I know he'll forgive me. He's that kind of person.

He kept his mouth shut and battled, wanting no excuses. It's been difficult reading some posts ripping him for poor play.

So now you know.

Skkorp tell LJ that he should see. Either Dr. Curtis Dickman, Or Dr. Volkert Sonntang at St. Joe's BNI. Those two Dr's. are two of the best Back and Neck Specialists in the world. Chris Reeves is alive today due to Dr. Sonntag.

People from all over the world come to see these to Dr's. Doctor Sonntag didmy back in 1989 L4-L5 region. Disk repair and removal. It improved my golf game and straightend out my slice. I was 43 then. I was back to work and playing golf in 4 weeks.

I know that Dr. Chick (sp) is the team Dr., but why not use the best when they are right here in the valley.

I hope LJ gets well AND gets some job on the offensive line as a starter. I consider him to be one of our 10 best players and it would be a tragedy for him to be cut.

Most of all I think it would be a slap in the face to him. He showed his loyalty to the Cardinals by resigning with them when he could have went elsewhere. He was really our first big player retention in a long time.

No matter what LJ, you still have fans even when the chips are down.

Woodsen hadn't practiced. PUP is only available to players who fail their pre-training camp physical. If you get injured during camp or a preseason game, you can only go on IR. PUP is for players injured before camp and it makes them ineligible to practice for the first 6 weeks. The Cards have no one eligible for PUP, since everyone has practiced that was once on PUP. All of their injured players must be on the active roster or IR.

My wife has worked at St. Joe's 4ICU (neuro-floor) for over 23 years. Dr. Robert Spetzler Save my Life in 1994. I had my first of many Brain surgeries that hot day in July. Thank god for the BNI.

I believe that LJ cannot be cut. Now that he's injured, it's either the active roster or IR.

If his injury was an offseason non-football injury, then they could cut him, but it sounds like he got injured practicing football and continued practice made it worse. In theory players do get injury settlements, but those are for players who don't want to go on IR and think they can catch on with another team again this year. LJ's contract is large enough that no team would this time of year can pay equal to that, so it's IR or active roster depending on how bad they think the injury is.

I was really hoping LJ Shelton would make it back to start the season. He does need to take care of his health first though. Hopefully the Cards do the classy thing and wait on him to return when he is ready. Good luck LJ and God speed on your recovery.

Is one great Doctor, used to be in the same office of my internist (all Mayo Clinic Doctors), besides being a fine diagnostician he's a great guy who loves the sport and the Cards.

You might remember years back Wayne Kuhl broke his leg on the sideline when one of the players slammed into him following a play that went out of bounds.
