Arizona Cardinals tackle L.J. Shelton visited the Buffalo Bills Thursday to help to possibly facilitate a trade between the two teams.

The Bills were given permission early this week to meet with Shelton, who was told he could shop his services in exchange for a draft choice in the first day of April's draft. The Bills are looking for left tackle options because they aren't expected to re-sign their starting left tackle, Jonas Jennings, who is an unrestricted free agent.

Shelton, 28, has also received interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos and St. Louis Rams.

Shelton's visit to Buffalo creates some interesting possibilities. Because the Cardinals are in need of a starting running back, the Bills could swap halfback Travis Henry to Arizona in a player-for-player trade. Henry wants out of Buffalo after losing his starting job to Willis McGahee and is in the final year of his contract.

The Bills have decided to go with J.P. Losman as their starting quarterback and are also looking to upgrade their offensive line. Jennings wants a signing bonus of around $10 million because he's one of the top tackles on the market, and the Bills aren't willing to meet those demands. They released Drew Bledsoe earlier this week to give Losman the starting job.

Shelton, 6-6, 335 pounds, was the Cardinals' first-round pick in 1999. Dennis Green gave his starting left tackle job to Leonard Davis last season. He has four years remaining on his contract at $3 million a year.

If the Bills decide Shelton is the right fit at left tackle, the financial aspects of this deal are very appealing.

I don't care who he goes to, the more teams that want him, the more likely we get something. I do think most backs in the second are younger, cheaper and potentially better than Henry (who only has 1 year on his contract left). I'd rather take the pick.

I do not want Travis Henry for LJ Shelton......period. TB are talking about their 2nd.....#36 overall.....that makes sense.

I would be willing to bet that the deal would be dependant upon Henry agreeing to a new deal first.

Then you are dead wrong on this one, IMO.

Henry for Shelton, if that is the deal, is a move the Cards have to make.

This trade would be perfect cuz then you can pick up Pac-Man or Rolle. But if Ronnie Brown is left at your pick and you cancelled on LJ for Surtain then it goes bad if Rolle and Pac-man are also gone.

Henry for Shelton would be a win win for both teams. I would love to see this happen. I agree with Clif we could then go after one of the better definsive players at #8.

If both the Bills and the Bucs rumors are correct, then we should be looking at getting an additional pick from the Bills along with Henry. AntSport Steve should be able to predict which round.

As for myself, while I would be pleased if this trade happened, I think Blaylock might be a better fit. If we picked up Blaylock, then I want a Surtain/Shelton trade.

I'm really glad it is very busy at work, so I don't completely obsess about this stuff.:D

A #36 pick instead of Henry or LJ? That's a crap shoot.

Tell me who we pick at #36 that's a slam dunk to be better than Henry.

There isnt. It is nothing but:

Fason "could" be better.
Morency "could" be better.
Arrington "could" be better.

There is no way a person can come here and say that either one of those guys "will" be better.

And, you can't count on any of them being there either. Sure, I guess some of them will, but maybe not the guy you like best. I really like JJ Arrington but I wouldn't take him over a proven producer like Henry.

Could be. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Green Bay grab him. Makes sense, as the article in the Riding The Jock post points out.
But if he's there when we pick in rd. 2 I really, really hope Green nabs him.

I haven't seen much of Henry and have to trust those of you who think highly of him.

Assuming he's as good as you say he is, you're probably better off going with the proven product over the unknown.

Folks have seen what Henry can do as a pro. Frye - despite all the hype - hasn't played a down yet.

Meanwhile, there's still (rightly or wrongly) a clamor by Cardinal fans for a big time RB. Henry would solve that problem and gives us more latitude toward shoring up our CB or LB position with Rolle, PacMan or Johnson.

And, oh yeah. With Henry, Shipp and Hambrick in the house, there's always the possibility we could then trade either Troy or Marcel.

With more teams that just Buf in the market for a reasonable LT, the Cards need to hold out for more than just Henry. Toss in a 4th round pick with Henry.

Personally, I do not want LJ to go as I think he will be awesome at RT this year and I don't see the Cards getting anyone better to play RT than him.

Why give up good players just because he's mad at Denny.

I would love to see us make this trade as well. Henry for LJ. And like every ones been saying take either Rolle, Jones or derrick Johnson @ #8.
Just out of curiosity what the word on Andrew Walter? I haven't heard anything about this guy the last couple of months. I mean I know he had the injury, but what's his status? If he's healthy and available in the third round we should jump @ him. I've always seen him as a Bledsoe kinda QB. Better then Navarre anyways. Go Cards!!

Henry is an above average back, but I don't know about "big-time" back. Again, my only problem is the money he will command in a year. He has as many question marks as the guys in the second round area. LT is a tough position to fill, RBs are a dime a dozen.

I'd say we've done better at the LT spot over the years than we have at RB.
