GREENSBORO — Ledford defeated Western Guilford 5-2 in nonconference girls soccer Monday at Western.

Carmen Hughes scored all five goals for the Panthers (2-6). Maddie McCormack and Maggie Eccard each had two assists.

Sanna Simpson made five saves in goal.

High Point Central, Eastern Randolph

RAMSEUR — High Point Central tied Eastern Randolph 1-1 in nonconference girls soccer Monday at Eastern Randolph. The Bison moved to 0-5-2 overall.

Bishop Mcguinness, Northern Guilford

GREENSBORO — Bishop McGuinness beat Northern Guilford 2-1 in nonconference girls soccer Tuesday at Northern.

Ashley Hawley and Olivia Miller each scored for the Villains (6-2). Alyssa Dixon-Velez added an assist.

Wheatmore, Randleman

RANDLEMAN — Wheatmore beat Randleman 7-1 in PAC 1A/2A girls soccer Monday at Randleman.

Natalie Bowman scored four goals to lead the Warriors (5-2 overall, 2-0 conference). Jocelyn McDowell added two goals and an assist, while Hallie Meyer had one goal. Emmie Messner and Addelyn Hedrick each had an assist.

Ashley Swaney made one save in goal.

Trinity, Southwestern Randolph

TRINITY — Trinity won 3-0 against Southwestern Randolph in PAC 1A/2A girls soccer Monday at Trinity. The Bulldogs improved to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

LACROSSE

High Point Central, North Davidson/Atkins

WELCOME — High Point Central lost 17-1 against North Davidson in Mid-State/Mid-Piedmont/Northwest Piedmont Conference boys lacrosse Monday at North. The Bison moved to 0-4 both overall and in the conference.

In the girls match at Atkins, Central lost 14-1 against Atkins to dip to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Bishop McGuinness, Cornerstone Charter/Grimsley

KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness topped Cornerstone Charter 12-9 in Mid-State/Mid-Piedmont/Northwest Piedmont Conference boys lacrosse Monday at Bishop.

Ward Bennett, Nick Hargett and Matthew Cetrone scored for the Villains (4-3 overall, 4-1 conference).

In the girls match, Bishop rolled past nonconference foe Grimsley 15-3 to improve to 6-1. Ella Suire, who also had four assists, and Kate Dennen each scored five goals for the Villains. Emery Grunwald had two, while Grace Gerber, Ellie Brown and Morgan Aho each had one.

Maddie Edwards made two saves in goal, while Grace Kohl had one.

SOFTBALL

East Davidson, Wheatmore

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson edged Wheatmore 8-7 in nonconference softball Monday at Brown Middle.

Sophie Hampton homered, doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Golden Eagles (2-3). Kyleigh Hedrick added two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Kyndall Williams, Leah Smith and Kenzi Cribb, who doubled, also had two hits each. Alyssa Staley chipped in a hit and two RBIs.

Staley struck out two in earning the complete-game win for East. Bella Dill and Adalyn Boles, who struck out four, each pitched three innings for Wheatmore.

Arielle Turgeon had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for the Warriors (3-6). Boles, and Maddie Nichols each had two hits and an RBI. Kiayla Burnette, Hannah Shoe and Savannah Heiney, who doubled, had two hits each. Dill doubled and drove in a run.

BOYS TENNIS

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, NORTHWEST GUILFORD

GREENSBORO — Southwest Guilford fell 9-0 against Northwest Guilford in Metro 4A Conference boys tennis Monday at Northwest. The Cowboys fell to 3-6 overall and 1-6 in the league.

Bishop McGuinness, Chatham Charter

KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness swept Chatham Charter 9-0 in nonconference boys tennis Monday at Civitan Park.

Luke Ansari (6-0, 6-1), Zach Zarate (6-0, 6-1), Tyler Sturgill (6-0, 6-1), Chase Wiedwald (6-0, 6-0), Luke Holton (6-0, 6-1) and Hayden Connor (6-0, 6-0) won in singles. Ansari/Holton (8-3), Sturgill/Wiedwald (8-0) and Zarate/Connor (8-0) won in doubles.

The Villains improved to 6-0 overall.

Ragsdale, Western Guilford

JAMESTOWN — Ragsdale beat Western Guilford 7-2 in Metro 4A Conference boys tennis Monday at Ragsdale.

Jay Patel (6-2, 6-7(5-7), 10-5), Finch Jones (6-3, 6-3), Roman Kemp (6-0, 6-0), Deep Patel (6-3, 7-5) and Dayan Shabbir (6-2, 6-0) won in singles. Shabbir/Deep Patel (8-3) and Kemp/Jones (8-4) won in doubles.

The Tigers improved to 3-4 both overall and in the conference.

Wheatmore, Providence Grove

FRANKLINVILLE — Wheatmore edged Providence Grove 5-4 in PAC 1A/2A boys tennis Monday at Providence Grove.

Silas Jessup (6-0, 6-0), Avery Plummer (6-2, 6-2) and Paul Ervin (6-0, 6-0) won in singles. Plummer/Michael McNamara (8-3) and Jessup/Ervin (8-1) won in doubles.

The Warriors improved to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

BOYS GOLF

At Greensboro National

GREENSBORO — Bishop McGuinness won Monday’s boys golf match at Greensboro National.

The Villains shot a 169 to edge Cornerstone Charter by two in the five-team match. Johnathan Riccoboni shot a 40 to lead the Villains, followed by Jack freeman with a 42, Liam Wolschon with a 43 and Burns Handy with a 44.

HIGH POINT UNIVERSITY

Walton Earns Weekly Conference Award

CHARLOTTE — High Point University’s Wade Walton is among this week’s Big South Conference baseball players of the week.

Walton was selected the Starting Pitcher of the Week, alongside Gardner-Webb’s Ryan Kennell as the Player of the Week, Radford’s Trey Ludy as the Relief Pitcher of the Week and UNC Asheville’s Rylen Stockton as the Freshman of the Week.

Walton struck out a career-high 11 batters over seven innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run in winning High Point’s conference opener against Charleston Southern. The right-hander struck out two in each of the first four innings and had at least one strikeout in all seven before exiting with an 8-1 lead. He held CSU hitless through four and did not surrender an extra-base hit.
