They've been threatening a lockout at this juncture for years, but for some reason I thought it wasn't coming up for another year or two.

I think it's very likely that there will be some sort of work stoppage -- it seems inevitable when you're dealing with such stubborn people on both sides -- but I don't think it will impact the season too much. The league is in a good position to rebuild its fan base now, so the cost of a long "down time" would be pretty high for everyone.

This is typical Union speak at the beginning of the negotiations. Even if they gave them the perfect proposal, the Union woukd still say how horrible this deal is and squawk for more cencessions. :D

The last strike/lockout caused irreparable damage. I hope they have more sense this time, but I'm not counting on it.

I'm wondering if this last draft , top loaded with high schoolers has anything to do with the leagues desire to impose an age limit.

Just maybe these kids are being set up as examples. Plus the leage won't be accused of collusion by not drafting them.

These negotiations for a new agreement have to include the age limit.

I'm not sure why the union would strike over the age issue. They represent CURRENT NBA players, not prospects.

I think the most difficult issue would be reducing the number of guarenteed years from six to four in exchange for getting rid of the luxury tax. Six year contracts are the most destructive aspect of NBA salaries because most players aren't worth much by the end of their contract and injuries are almost inevitable.

Would the owners go to the mat over it? I'm not sure, but I know the players union would.

The Union has steadfastly stated that they are against an age restriction. Post draft at MSG, Billy Hunter was overheard in a conversation with Dwight Howard when he said, " you should thank me for making sure you high school kids are in the draft", to which Dwight responded, " know who to thank, sir, Thank You.

The NBA needs a modification of guaranteed contracts and come to grips with high schoolers who ned college ball education. The NBA teams are trading contracts instead of players.

Anybody else tired of this crap? I'm as good as gone if there is another lockout. Those idiots will never learn. My dad left baseball after the 1994 lockout (was a diehard fan of the dodgers for so many years) and hasn't been to a game since. I have no problem doing the same if these idiots can't get their act together.

Count me in, or actually out. Given my low opinion of the state of NBA BB, as it is, a strike/lock out could do it for me. No more money to dole out to DirecTv NBA Pass. On top of that, Shaquille showed up at the players union gathering, complete with bodyguard and personal assistant, and declared his intention to run for Player Union Rep to replace MIchael Currey. Now if that is not the biggest insult. Him, his attitude and his contract are at the forefront of what is qwrong with the NBA. On top of that he can mumble his way through press conferences and interviews when he is the boss, so no one will know what is going on.
