I cancelled. This insures Cards will be good.

Did they offer anything to try to sway you? I just saw a commercial where new customers get it for free. WTF? I've been paying them all kinds of money for years, where's my freebie? :D

I have had Direct TV for two years and would never switch to Dish. I have the internet with AT&T, so I get a discount with my package. It's cheaper than having cable TV and the internet with the cable company.

I have never had the Sunday Ticket, do you think they would give me a discount if I asked them that I was interested in buying for this season?

Offered me nothing. Woman was so rude I thought I was calling Comcast. May miss the games, glad I am saving the money.

Did you get to retention? The key is to say cancel to the auto woman and you will be transferred.

Tell them very nicely that you saw a commercial where it is now included in the price of DTV. They will say that it is for new subscribers only. Then ask if there is something similar that they can do for you.

I was able to get $10 off for 12 months and a one time $125 credit.

You can do this. You may have to call back at different times to get someone else, but well worth the time if you ask me. But be sure you are overwhelmingly nice and use their name as you speak to them. They love that.

I just called and said that I was considering re-signing up for NFL Sunday Ticket and had heard there were various offers going on because of the uncertainty of the season. Asked what they could give me and she said there was nothing other than the price that was offered before the lockout happened.

Don't talk to the front line CSR, they can't do anything. You need to get to retention. They are the ones who can make all the deals. When you call, say cancel, then it will send you to retention. When you get the real person, don't even bring up you said cancel.

All you need to do is tell them you saw a commercial that said ST was included in DTV packages now and you would like to get the same deal. If not, can they do something similar.

Thanks, that did the trick. I get tired of arguing with the CSR about transferring me to retention, didn't know you could just say "cancel" to the automated system. I was always worried that the automated system would just cancel my service with letting a rep get the chance to talk me out of it with a discount or other incentive.

Got the $20 off for 6 months and found that that the red zone channel and games in HD are included in the Sunday Ticket package. On the go is extra but I don't care about that. Really glad they did away with the Superfan stuff.

Good, I'm glad it worked. Just do this every year about this time. I have never paid full price for ST. DTV knows this that is why they allow these kinds of discounts to subscribers. All you got to do is ask. The worst they can say is no. Then try again later. :)

Wow, did exactly what you said.... I got Ramona and called her by her name and was super nice to her and she took off $ 185.00....now only 5 payments of $30.80...sweet.

Thanks Stew

Stew, this worked great for me, thanks for the heads up on the "cancel" thing, it rules not having to go through the CSR. I went right to customer retention. When "Timothy" answered I played dumb and told him I saw how new subscribers were getting ST free and was there anything he could do for me. He checked and told me nothing could be done and gave me his spiel about there may be discounts later in the season. I told him I was disappointed because I have had ST for 5 years and had to pay full price this year when new customers were getting it free. He checked again and said he could do something. I got $15.00 off for 12 months, and an additional $5 bucks off for months 13-24, $240.00 total discount. I think a lot of how much you get has to do with how long you have been with them and how many other discounts/freebies you have received. When he asked if he could do anything else for me I said not unless you have a free HBO special going on; he checked and said they didn't but he could give me a discount for it (it doesn't hurt to try, that parting shot has worked for me before lol). I've never paid full price for ST either. Working DTV is kinda like a sport to me, and you are right about being friendly, you'll get more if you are a friendly customer who has "hurt" feelings than you will if you are confrontational.

For the record I was going to cancel if I didnt get a discount, no way is it worth full price to me. I hope they don't hold this discount against me next year :D

DTV has a heart system. Depending on your level of service, years of service, autopay, insurance, etc., determines how many hearts you have. The more hearts you have, the better deals you usually get.

A good way to increase your leverage is to set up autopay and get the insurance ($7 well spent).

Called them again. Said I was going to cancel. Repeated the operator's name a few times. Mentioned Comcast, switching back.

They gave me $20 buck a month discount. And NFL to go for free.

Football here I come!!

A bit OT but I have just resigned to NFL Gamepass. $239.99 for the season and allows me to stream all games (apart from 2 shown at 6pm and 9pm on Sky Sports) and all NFL network shows. It's the onlywash I can get every Cards game so no option really.

What it does offer for time slots when the Cards are not playing is a 4 way split screen which works great when hook it up to my TV.

I think it's only available outside the US but well worth it for us international redbirds.

I just got my Sunday Ticket for a grand total of 160 bucks.

Was there a point where if the Cards had not done more, you would have said, "why bother?"

Kolb wasn't really enough for me, but the rest have made me somewhat excited to watch them play.

No. I'm too much of a football junkie :D The only way I would have canceled is if I couldn't have gotten a steep discount.

I am probably the same way, I just like to pretend. And my wife is now happier she can watch her Tom Brady.

Yeah, I canceled DTV about 4 months ago because we have the bundle package with Cox and for about a year we have both Cox and DTV in the house... ultimately the wife won out and I had to cancel DTV...

Then came a letter saying they would pay my contract cancelation fee, give me Sunday ticket for free, all movie channels free for 3 months, and half off the regular sub. monthly price for first 12 months....

So I called and got them to throw in the 120.00 credit and an extra 5 dollars per month if I agreed to signed up on the phone at the time....

best. move. ever.

The wife isn't thrilled, but we are saving about 40 bucks a month over cox and that doesn't even include the extra perks like sunday ticket and the movie channels...

SO in conclusion if you are near the end of your contract I strongly suggest canceling it for a month or two, its highway robbery if you play your cards right :D

Hey, do you find it hard to keep up with all the baseball watching that goes with that package?

I get it for the braves games since i live in the northeast and i find that sometimes i forget i even have it when im looking for something to watch. It is hard to keep up with though. I find basketball is the worst to keep up with.

Just went to DTV about 3 months ago. Love the red button when watching baseball. DTV is much better than Cox Cable wished I had changed years ago. I guess I need to call and see if they will give NFL ticket. Live in Phoenix so will see all Card games anyhow but would like to follow the Chiefs.
