This is just funny to me. We have no chance at Hall doing a good job for a ROOKIE. Wow , now we are trading Fitz? Beanie is leaving because he has a new agent? Defense has been doing better, but not because of coaching? We didn't get one false start in Seattle, but our O-line is doomed. (even if they are working on run schemes this week) Every turn over we create is luck, every bad one is bad coaching.

What else, Whiz will ruin this team, only was successful because of DG and Warner. One of my favorites, Whiz mistreated Big Ben. Bidwells, Oh I miss spelled that because they don't bid well on players, don't have any interest in winning, and are hoping for a lock out.
They only pay people that will hurt this organization, to save money.

Sorry for all that, if your still reading, I won't go over every reason/opinion/fact that I don't believe all of that is true. Call me Kool-aid or what ever.

I think folks are jumping the gun. Only real problem right now is at QB. I do understand this and will not argue. The rest (IMO) can be worked on. Has been getting worked on.

If Whiz runs the ball at home, limits Halls throws, the Defense does well, and nobody fumbles a *****'n punt return, I think we got this game in the bag.

A winning record says a lot for a team who just lost Warner. Teams all over are playing bad one week, and good the next. Dawgstradomis says the Cards win this game, Max improves, we run the ball, and the Defense puts a hurtin on TB.

Sorry for the long read, yall know that aint my style.

Well-----while it may not be in the bag-----we certainly have a legitimate shot at a win at home this week. If the team does the things you enumerated, we should be in the game at the end, and hey-----on any given Sunday?????

You did forget about how Whiz is the Devil in disguise and loves to take FHOF's and hold them back from stardom because of his ego.;)

Gotta have a filter. Some of these (the things you listed) are legitimate concerns, some are idiotic. You start to identify the drama queens around here and just take take their overreactions with a grain of salt.

Let's give him a couple more games to ask for a Qb change. First of all the saints game was the first game he started and he is a rookie. 2nd game against the seahawks what Qb didn't do good. Hall sucked, hasselback sucked, and Anderson sucked. Let's wait these next couple games to determine what hall can do for us.

Once upon a time, Joe Montana sucked. ("No arm strength" muttered the so-called experts).

Jaws, Gambo and Ash missed the point when they framed the question: "Is the development of Hall more important than winning for the rest of the team?"

For better or for worse, Wiz and the coaches feel we have the best chance of winning with Hall in there. It has nothing to do with Hall's "skill set" upside. It has everything to do with finding a way to win with a smart but physically limited QB who won't screw up too badly and can manage the game well enough so that the other guys can win.

Granted, he didn't do this in Seattle (& barely did it vs. NO), but I think Wiz's thinking is that Hall will get to that point (where he'll be OK) sooner than later.

Regarding Fitz - When I hear it from him, I'll believe it. It sounds more like the ESPN guys (comprised mainly of former players and coaches who never had any reason to respect the Cardinals then and have continued those prejudices moving forward) speculating and merely trying to stir up trouble.

We can't control what will or will not happen with any veteran whose contract will expire. Some moves will be brilliant; others will be dumbassed. The team will rise or fall on some of those moves and other factors having to do with injuries, the bouncing, refs, good & bad luck etc. And we'll cheer when we do good and boo when we do bad.

I guess my point is that built into the process by which 32 teams compete, very few teams stay on top for more than a few years and even the best ones will occasionally get complacent or have a key player get injured or really screw up a relationship with a guy they need. It's just part of the ebb and flow of things. (This year: Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Oakland up/Dallas, Green Bay and Arizona down. Go figure).

Life will go on.

Especially this season. The Titans lose at home to the Broncos who just lost to the Raiders 59-14 who gave SF their only win. The Chargers beat the Cards 41-10 and haven't won a game since. The Rams beat the Redskins 30-16 but lose to the Lions 44-6. The Seahawks are 4-2 but have lost 20-3 to the Rams and 31-14 to the Broncos. The Colts lost to the Jaguars.

A really strange season. Except for the Steelers and Patriots who win every season no matter what. Only one losing season between them since 2001 and 5 Lombardi trophies.

I can't wait for Sunday to arrive. Got excused from church on Sunday by the old lady after pleading my "haven't been to a game this year" speech. She laughed her ass off, and now the adventure begins. Hopefully my lucky jersey does its thang. :)

Good thoughts. As a long time Cards fan I understand the doom and gloom feelings of many fans. However, it is good advice to just chill out.
The only thing you said that I don't agree with is in regards to the Bidwills. I DO believe that they DON'T "bid well" for players.
It's not that they don't have ANY interest in winning, it's that they don't have enough.
It's not that they are hoping for a lock out, it's that buy being cheap they have prepared and protected THEMSELVES and therefore don't care if there is a lockout one way or the other.
It's not that they purposely hurt the organization, it's that by being cheap and not doing ALL they can to get quality personnel they indirectly hurt it.
With all that said I must say that under MICHAEL Bidwills leadership the team certainly is better than in the past. In fact I would not have remained a fan if he hadn't taken over. He has helped build the Cardinals into a competitive organization. With a Bidwill in charge the Cards will never be a powerhouse team. However M. Bidwill is good enough to keep them competitive and that's good enough for me.

In before the K9 tantrum

Nice. Where am I throwing tantrums? I'm certainly not engaged in any recriminations against other fans on the board.

  • Whis criminally mishandled the QB situation, but I'm not calling for his head.
  • A lot of fans are all over Bill Davis, but I think that he's done a fair job this season.
  • Max Hall is terrible, but you can't let him sit on the bench and talk him up to your players while Derek Anderson is terrible. Now Coach can go back to Derek Anderson if Max Hall doesn't improve.
  • I think the Bidwills want to win. That's never been my game.
  • I don't put any of this on Rod Graves, which goes against what has been my past treatment of him.

It's funny that when people lay out the facts of the Whis era (blown draft picks and free agents, mostly), we're darksiders or haters. I think that you can critique what's going on with the team and still love them and cheer for them. I fully expect Max Hall to throw his first career TD pass (finally) in this Sunday's game.

Good post K9.

The "tantrum" was uneeded k9-baiting that you handled extreamly well.

You have my respect; I know when I go post-poking K9, I could get bit.

we're an average QB away from winning the division.

Hall just maybe that QB, if he can calm down and just manage the games. Whiz needs to be a bit more creative with the runs and play calling in general, and we need to stop self distructing. but as we stand now we could be good enough to take the division with an average QB. Lets see how it goes Sunday

good post K9 BTW

I fully agree. This year started out DArkside for me, with DA. I then came in to the light with the QB switch. Hall needs to improve to keep me away from the DArkside. :D

Very nice post, and as Redheart said so well, great way to handle the "tantrum" comment.

That being said, I'm not so sure I'm on board with your free pass on Graves. If the actions of an employee are "criminally" mishandled, then the manager of that subordinate is responsible for the consequences of these same poor choices. RG can't bask in the glow of having hired a coach that took this previously under-performing group to a Super Bowl, and not take the heat when that same person screws the pooch as well.

If Whiz had communicated his distrust of Leinart's abilities to Graves, and then RG did nothing about it, then this falls squarely on Rod. If Whiz kept these inklings to himself, then Graves might be exonerated, however if I were RG I'd be fairly ticked off at my coach, perhaps even publicly so.

Now is this enough to fire everybody involved?

No, not really, but the bloom is certainly off the rose for this fan, and decisions made in the future will probably not be met with the same "In Whiz & Graves We Trust" attitude either.

I'm not sure that I really consider Graves as Whis's "manager." Especially since it's been clear to me that Graves didn't "hire" Whis. The reports at the time were that Graves wanted to hire Bears Defensive Coordinator Ron Rivera at the time, and it was Michael Bidwill who pulled the trigger on Whis.

Even then, most coaches have complete control over their 53-man roster, and a coach coming off consecutive division championships certainly does. I'm sure that one reason the Cards didn't pursue Bulger (for good or ill) was that Whis was telling them that #7 was doing all the right things during the offseason, and we'd just invested in Derek Anderson.

Graves isn't the kind of guy to sell out his HC. He's been here through three head coaching changes now; he's a survivor. Both of them have two or three seasons to put something back together. If Whis and #7 were never going to be able to work together (and that seems to be the case), then Whis has a draft and free agency period to pull it together.

On the other hand, I think Graves gets real credit for locating Kerry Rhodes and Paris Lenon in free agency; both of them have far exceeded my expectations.

The Cards' front office organization is pretty opaque, so it's hard to split hairs over who has what responsibility. But for the big things I think that you can trust the FO follows traditional outlines.
