With two spots to fill and the possibility they'll come from the summer league team, here are some guys I found interesting (besides Sato and Lampe):

Dalron Johnson (6-9/215) - I was surprised he was still around, but he makes a lot of sense on the Suns roster. At UNLV he was a dynamite high-post center and his game, at least in terms of comparible skills, is similar to Boris Diaw. He actually has good range and will block some shots, although he's not a very good defender for a tweener forward. I'd be curious to see if he's improved any.

Tommy Smith (6-10/215) - Not to get into another debate on the player, but he is a more complete forward than what you find in the summer leagues. At the very least, I would expect him to have a few games with some solid numbers. He will be one of the best athletes at his position in this league, and considering this is probably his last shot to make an NBA roster, I would expect him to be extra motivated to catch the eye of some team.

Chris Owens (6-7/245) - It's hard to imagine a place for Owens on the Suns, but if not for an ACL injury his senior year at Texas in 2002, he might been finishing off a nice first-round contract. He was considered one of the best players in the country at one point -- like Top 15. He played for either the Bucks or the Grizzlies one year. Think of a shorter Kurt Thomas, with more athleticism (pre-injury). It's been awhile. I would hope he's got his body intact these days.

I always liked Tommy Smith at ASU. Him and Mario Bennet are two of my favorite fomer Sun Devils. I would be excited if he made the roster.

Phil Weber mentioned Lionel Chalmers (doubtful) and Ruben Douglas, but didn't mention any of the guys you mentioned.

From watching the practice yesterday, I don't know why anyone would be interested in Chalmers. Everytime he was gaurding someone, they drove passed him with ease. He had, I think, 2 baskets, and a fairly sweet stroke, but he didn't really show me anything. Just from the practice video, I'd look at Britton Johnson, Sato, Bularri. There were a couple of guys in black that I thought looked fairly good, but they didnt have names on their jerseys.

Bulleri looked decent but looked short too. We'll wait and watch how he performs in the summer league to get a rough idea. There was this guy in black, not too tall, had scraggly but short hair. He made all but one of his attempts I think. He had a pretty nice stroke. The dude showed nothing much apart from that shooting touch, which is not enough for our team I guess.

That was Ruben Douglas.

After picking up Jumaine Jones, I'd like for the Suns to fill out the rest of the roster with Chalmers, Sato, and Britton Johnson. Lampe's had too many chances, he needs to go overseas and develop his game over there instead of hanging on hopes of making a NBA team's injury list.

Ruben Doulas was in Red, and was on Amare's squad.

Lampe is 21 years old and was injured last season. With the Suns need a big who can shoot, I'd say he has a real shot at making the team if he shows anything this summer.

Even based on his college experience, I'd be interested in Sato as an athletic defense specialist. If his shooting has improved as much as they say, he's got a great chance.

Its almost guaranteed that Lampe makes the Suns.

With as many roster spots that we have open, and no real quality bigmen left available in freeagency. You have to think Lampe will easily make the roster.

How much playing time he gets is the real question.

And another guy i want to see do good during the summer leagues is Britton Johnsen.

Hes 6'10 but runs the floor like a SF.

Plus i heard he has really worked on his jumper and extended his range while playing overseas.Cause it used to really be a weak point in his game.

If he could only beef up he would probably already be in the NBA.

210lbs at 6'10 is rail thin, he needs to be atleast 225.

Nothing is "almost guaranteed" at this point. There is still a lot of time left in the summer for the Phoenix Suns to make some moves. They are looking at other players than those who are being mentioned here on the board.

I have this fantasy about D'Antoni publicly inviting a whole bunch of guys in just to help jack up their price while keeping their real target a secret.

Well, at least that's what I'd do. :p
