from Darren Urban's blog:
Receiver LeRon McCoy got in and got open, but he dropped a couple of passes -- including one that would have been a long touchdown -- and he can't afford those mistakes.
.....
One other thing noticable: LeRon McCoy is behind the big three at receiver, as well as Micheal Spurlock, Sean Morey and Ahmad Merritt, who all got in before McCoy. That doesn't bode well for a guy who was once thought of as a diamond in the rough.

He may not make it past the first cut.

sorry when your only skill is catching passes you can't drop them.

That should have been a catch, fumble and touchdown. He had control of the ball until he hit the ground.

I was disappointed in McCoys performance. I was hoping he would make the team. Dropping the ball is not good if you are a WR. BJ had a good game.

One game. Lots of pre-season left. I agree, it looks bad for him right now, but did Fitzgerald play any better? I think not. Patience.

I think I agree, he made a fantastic grab, but landing on his back and elbows. The impact to his elbow by the ground-contact jolted the ball free, but he had control of the ball before he landed.

Sometimes guys have "bad hair days" and it would be unwise to cut a guy just because of one rotten game. The question the coaches should be asking about McCoy is: "Is his problem chronic?" Or was did he simply fall into a funky rut that he can come out of? (it isn't as if LeRon didn't make a few clutch catches last season. He's shown he has talent and can catch the ball).

My point - the two surprise injuries to Chike and Oliver Ross should teach us that you don't want to cavalierly cut guys prematurely - if other guys go down, we may need them.
.
That said - the competition for the #5 and 6 receiver spots is so intense that McCoy's performance Saturday could be enough to pull him down below guys like Watkins and Breaston on he depth chart.
