well, our last ditch effort to be somewhat decent next year has seemingly been foiled by Cuban's sign and trade efforts with toronto. Why let marion go for nothing when they can buy out stack and possibly get someone else as well....damn Gambo for feeding us false hopes that a lineup of Nash/Rich/Marion/STat/Chandler could possibly happen....IMO that is the only squiz the suns could form which would have a shot at top 5 in the west....now cuban has told his gm to make it happen regardless...donzo:bang:

Yeah, it sucks when a bunch of other teams have trade assets and the Suns don't. Too bad there's nothing to be done about that now.

The Suns have useable assets in Wallace and Pavlovic but they are likely going into the cash register.

id say marion would have gotten us maybe 3 extra W's in the win column. Hopefully hill leaves, nash refuses to sign a contract and we can just start rebuilding instead of this "reload" crap.

I still don't see what will be alluring to Toronto more than the cap space gained by renouncing Marion. If Dallas can offer players with non-guaranteed contracts (which they can immediately release) and picks, I could see it.

Toronto needs cap space and doing a S&T eats up space for both teams.

Dallas does not have the MLE because they used it on Gortat.

The more I think about it, Dallas can have Marion. I'd rather have Clark and Dudley man the small forward position. Maybe this year Marion will do better. But in a couple years, Clark and Dudley have a chance to become part of the Suns future.

And in a couple years Marion would just be eating up cap space.

Yeah!!!

Let Dallas deal with improving their team while giving up virtually nothing...

Oh wait.

For the record...everyone saying Marion vanished in Toronto.

15 PPG, 8 RPG, 1.5 Steal, 1 Block

Down from the D'Antoni numbers but that is everyone across the board.

That is outstanding for the mid level or slightly higher.

I'm not saying that he wouldn't be a fine addition to this team. I'm hinting that there is good and bad that comes with Marion. There was some rumors that he was a bit of a cry baby when he didn't get his touches which caused some locker room tension.

Beyond that, he has indicated he wouldn't even come back here. That just seems like we're being shoveled a huge spoon of crap from Suns management. They want to show like they're making an effort to bring back a fan favorite only to be burned by the evil Dallas Mavericks.

Marion has always been an underrated player

Marion is amazingly overrated and underrated at the same time. His scoring is overrated.

The easy baskets he generates with his hustle, vastly underrated.

He's certainly a bargain for the MLE, and will be for a few more years, barring injury. I don't know how anyone could dispute that.

Indeed, Dallas is rebuilding and improving on the fly. I see they have already signed rookie PG Rodrigue Beaubois whom I liked. Cuban will not let the Mavs go down.

Exactly...at a max deal, no way he is worth it, but for between 5-8 per year, he's a steal, especially in a system that is tailor made for him.

I don't dispute this. I dispute Marion taking minutes away from Clark and Dudley when we should be going in the direction of youth movement, not SSOL retreads.

Do we know that Clark and Dudley are starters in the NBA. Maybe not.

Besides the Suns can slide Marion over to PF. :D

On a more serious note, the Suns really need to get some help at center. There is a huge vacuum there.

At this point everyone is bitching just to bitch.

News Flash: DALLAS IS GOING TO BE A MEDIOCRE 5 - 8 SEED AGAIN NEXT YEAR.

Cubes doing "not letting the Mavs go down" leads to him signing Josh Howard and Dampier to ridiculous franchise altering contracts and trading Devin Harris for Jason Kidd because you think you are closer then you are.

They are no closer to getting a championship then they were last year when they weren't even one of the 8 best teams in the league. Cuban is just another version of Sarver. Continually throwing money in the wrong direction just to do so and not having any plan. What are a 35 year old Kidd and Marion going to do for them? Not really all that much except take up cap space on a team that won't be competing for the title as presently constituted.

Basically they were the Suns last year with better health. Nothing more nothing less. Like Ouchie said in his excellent post in another thread its the absence of commiting one way or the other that dooms you to being irrelevent.

Can't we just wait until the end of the offseason before you decide to rant about the direction they are going? At this point they are still figuring what they are going to do and how they want to go about doing it.

I am not saying they are doing everything right. Quite the contrary. But unlike many of you I don't want us to just start throwing around multi year contracts just to show that the are being "active". In other words err on the side of caution. They are ham strung until they decide if they can get the right deal for Nash and Amare. Letting Shawn Marion sign else where isn't going to make or break the season.

The woe is us crap from many of the fans on this board is tired. Just relax and let it play out. And Dallas isn't who we should be trying to emulate.

I didn't realize my three short sentences was a rant. See below:

Perhaps you should examine the length of your posts and examine the content for rant material.

More of a general statement then a personal attack. I quoted your post because I don't think Dallas is being any more intelligent then Phoenix.

Fair enough. But Cuban is willing to make the effort and spend the money. Believe me, I'm not a Dallas or Cuban fan. However, I do admire his desire to win.

Isn't it ironic that Cuban wouldn't match Phoenix' FA offer to Nash. Maybe he is still trying to buy redemption.
