LoL, Leander interviewed him after the game. Yes, he is going green and rides his bike to work everyday (he lives downtown). He said his teammates give him a hard time about it and try to run him over when they see him on his bike.

Lou is a great bench guy... just the kind of player the Suns have always spurned, to my dismay.

D'Antoni spurned the Bo Outlaw type guys, but some of the other coaches loved energy guys.

Amundson has some pretty good per minute stats in only 8.3 minutes a game:

Points 2.5 or 0.30 per minute (50% from the field)
Rebounds 2.0 or 0.241

George,

I'm not just talking about energy, also hard nosed guys who like mixing it up around the hoop. Not John McLeod. Cotton loved talking about dirt workers but keeping them on the roster was another matter - I remember when the Suns got Xavier McDaniel and I thought we finally had a guy with a bit of nasty in him only to watch Cotton let him rot on the bench. Paul Weshphal? Danny Ainge? You'd think Skiles would have liked that kind of player but if he did he hid it well. Frank Johnson talked about it but his idea was to make over little Jake - which failed miserably.

It always seemed to me that the Suns had a knack for finding guys that looked like they ought to be bruisers but were softies in disguise - Armon Gilliam, James Edwards, Danny Schayes, Joe Kleine, Mark Bryant, Rodney Rogers, Gheorgi Gluckov, Tim Kempton - to name a few off the top of my head. Mark West wasn't in that category but he was the master of the ticky tack foul - just think of the difference it'd have made if he'd gotten full value for most of those fouls.

When it comes to major players teams have to take whoever falls to them much of the time but when it comes to bench players they can get whatever they value most highly.

Best basketball part of the Houston game for the Suns had to be Lou.

Admundson has certainly earned himself some minutes. Give him some of Diaw's or Lopez's minutes, he's earned it by outplaying both of them

More offensive boards than our entire starting line up combined vs the clips.

NICE!

Go Lou!

How much ass does this guy kick??!

I love his energy, but guys like him are only good in short bursts. If he's in for too long, his deficiencies become more apparent and the opposition can exploit them.

U r absolutely right. Amundson would probably never earn a starting job in an elite NBA team. But he is exactly what this Suns need at the moment: a role player, do exactly what he's asked, need no time to find touch, happy for any playing time he's given.

A contending team must build a right mix of stars and role players.

^In other words... Hes the new Marion!

This seems a bit disrespectful to Shawn Marion to me. Shawn Marion is one of the best players to ever put on a Phoenix Suns uniform.

Shzm13: Then you must not feel the Suns have ever been considered an elite team. Marion was a starter in Phoenix, he's still a starter in Miami. Oh, he's also never had to look for minutes since he's been more than happy to average 37+ mpg over his entire 11-year career thus far.

Other than that..........great post.
