Our offense is particularly putrid today. Despite their starter leaving in the 2nd inning.

Here are the latest stats showing how many games each of our three Catchers have started.

AVILA........13
MATHIS......11
MURPHY.......5

None of them stands out as being a better Catcher than the rest.

Here are their batting averages.

AVILA........ .163
MATHIS..... .226
MURPHY..... .242

I know that Mathis is Grienke's designated Catcher but, regarding Avila and Murphy, it makes no sense.

Murphy is the closest we have to a hitting Catcher and he has started 5 games out of 29.

Failing to score the run when we had bases-loaded is going to bite us in the butt

And after our seldom used Catcher drives in a clutch run, our lead Catcher then ends the game with the tying run in scoring position.

Crap! Why did they put Avila in? Wasn't there someone else?

Glad they didn't quit, but in the end, the lack of big bats came back to haunt. Lamb and Souza need to be back like now.

Don't know why they haven't used Souza in pinch hit situations. He's been swinging fine for weeks, just has trouble throwing. It'd be a good way to ease him back into facing major league pitching too.
