And likely not the WCF either. He manned up big time.
Two words - contract year.

Tim Thomas would be playing like crap even if he was on the Suns this year. He's lost like thirty pounds (Clipper season-ticket holder Bill Simmons has theorized steroid use) and whatever effort he showed last year was a fluke to everyone who has watched non-Suns NBA over the last decade.

PS - I wish a writer like Simers would move to the Valley and really get under people's skin. What some locals qualify as negative journalism is considered softballing in most major markets.

i've been saying this for years. zoni's wouldn't know what to make outta the spit and venom that the boston and/or DC media can spew at an underacheiving team, player, or even just a minor weakness (such as the suns inability to win w/o nash). everyone on the cards board regularly bellyaches about the local media bashing the cards. i think they'd all commit suicide if they saw what a real east coast sports media team would do to the cards if that team resided in their market.

How about this lineup
Nash
Bell
Marion
Diaw
Stoudemire

G-Barbosa
F-Thomas
C-K.Thomas
F/G- Jones

Thats a nine man rotation that is legit.

We'll never know.

What we do know is he carried the Suns at times and hit big shots. And according to Jack McCallum he was great in the locker room.

The Valley so low.
I'm disappointed that people would want someone like Simers writing in the Valley, or anywhere. I don't remember reading other articles by him, but in this one he throws stereotypes (the Suns and defense) and acts like a pain to try to provoke a reaction from TT. 'Pain' meaning getting on his nerves the way a 3 year old would. No analysis, no data, nothing but venom. Frankly, he makes Bickley's rants about the Cards look moderate and well-informed (and sometimes they are), not to mention being more freaked-out than Barkley.

TT was up and down with us, but there were quite a few games where he saved our bacon, undeniably. H probably helped more than House, or even Barbosa 2 years ago. If he got a long-term contract here he might take a nose-dive here, too, but maybe not. We'll never know because we saved up the money for Banks, but it's not unthinkable that, if we had him, we'd go to the Finals, whereas without him, we barely run out of gas....

Tim Thomas would not only be worse with us, he would do it in less minutes. The gain we'd get by having him and not Banks would be pretty small (although I do believe there would be some gain). If we signed him to the same contract Banks got, GUARANTEED we'd be saying the same things about him that we're saying about Banks.

And yet, we were still a mediocre team with him and a great team without him (before KT's injury).

Understood, however, your last sentence can't possibly be serious.

A lot has already been said. The only thing I know for sure is that TT was a good fit in the Phoenix system and the Suns would be a better team with him than without him. The Suns would also have great frontline depth and a deeper rotation.

That said, the Suns have Banks instead. I'm still hoping Banks can find his game by playoff time. I have a gut feeling that Banks may be able to elevate his game in the playoffs if he is needed. He just seems like that type of player.
