Just finished this last night(or more accurately, this morning) and have some observations. I agree that after season 3, the story took a left turn into Weirdsville and by the time the series ended, there were more questions than answers. As for the finale, I didn't think it was that bad. It was better than some series finales I've seen(True Blood, I'm looking at you) and I understood the very end. They were in a sort of between worlds, between life and Heaven. However the alternate timelines of some of the characters(Sawyer, Hugo, Miles, Jack, Juliette, Desmond the most different than previous seasons) were a bit confusing. My theory is everything we saw on the island happened right down to the rescue of the Oceanic 6 and I also think the island was supernatural as we saw. What was disappointing was the omission of Michael at the end but I interpret this as he went somewhere warm in the afterlife. Another disappointing thing was Ben not getting his comeuppance. He went from a murderous, conniving villain to a completely benign and almost sympathetic character who, apparently redeemed himself(although I don't see the redemption). I also would have liked to see Ecko in the final scene. He was one character who started bad but did truly redeem himself and him as a priest in a church would have been apropos. Oh well, still enjoyed the series even though seasons 5 and 6 were extremely hard to follow.

There were a myriad of reasons why some of the older dead characters didn't show up, mainly more personal ones between the actor and the producers--especially with the Eko character, who wanted to be killed off a lot sooner than he actually was.
