Isn't it remarkable what the simple inclusion of a decent QB can do for your team. I'm talking about the Niners, team we all considered possibly the worst in the league, even the Browns when immediate future is thrown in. They go from a team that couldn't win a game, to one who doesn't lose any of their next four, including beating this season other conference's champions. Is there really too high of a price to place on a true franchise QB? Maybe not, if you think you know for sure what you are getting.
Well, lets apply that thought to the Cardinals situation and future. If lucky, maybe Allen or Mayfield fall to the Cards at 13 or 15, or whenever they pick. Are either of those two worth gambling your 1st round pick on when you could conceivably get a really good CB, LB, OT, or WR at that spot? Usually I would say No. But I would be willing to take the gamble on either of those 2 Qbs, simply due to their possible upside? We have gambled on much less fairly recently.
But if we do or not, there seems to be many QBs who could be available to us this off season for probably less cost. Just think of the teams, who due to injury especially, are sitting with 2 proven starting Qbs on their roster now. Surely the Cards to have their choice of who they like the most for a reasonable cost.
My inclination is to do both, take a shot on Allen or Mayfield if there for us, and still go get any one of the #2 qbs on one of the many other teams. Help me now, fill in all those who we could inquire about this off season.
Chiefs - Alex Smith, smart, disciplined, healthy, and seems to love this year being allowed to air it out.
Vikings - Who knows what they are thinking? I would give any of their 3 qbs a shot for right price. Would prefer either Keenan or Bridgewater who both are young and still growing/learning.
Eagles - Foles may create some desire in other teams if he can keep the Eagles moving thru the playoffs.
What other QBs might be sitting on someone's bench next season?
What does everyone else think about acquiring one of the existing NFL QBs and/or, using or not using our 1st round pick on an available QB?
