Louis Delmas, S released by Lions

the good:

a player in his prime ( 26 or 27 years old) at a position of need. when he plays a full season, is productive.

the bad:

played a full season last year, but seems always nicked.

it just seems the Detroit secondary is always awful ( last year, not horrible but still ranked 19th in pass D)

-- so is Delmas a good player surrounded by poor ones, or is he part of the problem.

You can't know for certain, but it is pretty telling when you are released after playing your first full season. New regime doesn't help either.

All I know is this, when I had watched him play he was incredible... I would want him playing for me

He's good but there are going to be too many good free agent options available at S this year. You can lock up a good young vet for 4-5 years and use that 2nd round pick on other areas. Plus, you know the vet can play in the NFL from day 1. There's going to be a learning curve for any rookie.

I know he was really good about 3 or 4 years ago.

I know he had a bad knee for a long time.

What I don't know is how well he has played lately, whether or not his knee is an issue, or whether he still has anything left in the tank.

3 years ago he would be a no brainer for the Lions to keep, or for some team to sign.

Interesting name, and since the Cardinals need more of a band aid than anything at FS, it makes sense to kick the tires, IMO.

I am surrounded by detroit natives, its strange. They are sports fans but i dont think they follow things anywhere near the level that we do so I would take it with a grain of salt.

IMO Delmas is way overrated as a player! Hasn't he been part of one of the worst secondaries in the NFL for years now? Plus, hes always has some sort of injury plus hes probably still gonna command some coin. Just my 2 cents

One of the few times I disagree with you Bucky but Delmas is hardly overrated. I have the unfortunate blessing of having a family member who is a Detroit fan and I have seen a lot of their games. Delmas is not the problem and he is very good when he is on the field. Health status is my only concern

Good player, but the wheels are gone. I don't think he'd play half the games.
