Last night I was disappointed as everyone about how the draft went. I wasn't necessarily upset we didn't deal into the top 10, or even angry that we didn't pull of a deal for Garnett. Selling the #24 stung a lot. I was initially furious.

But here's what it comes down to.

The Suns are our team. I love everything about them. I love that we are probably the most respectable team in the league, with great players that just go out and play. I love Stoudemire, he's a tremendous player and invidual, and the same with Marion. Losing either would have made this team feel not the same, even if we got Garnett.

This is OUR team. These are OUR boys. They give their all, win or lose, and at the end of the day, I can sleep well knowing that I love them all. I hope others feel the same. I hold out hope we can add another piece, like Hill, but if we don't, I won't be cheering any less.

Love your hometown team, through the good times and the bad...and thats all that counts.

GO SUNS. Give it your all. And we WILL be behind you, win or lose.

The term "fan" is short for "fanatic" and not necessarily in a good sense. Professional sports teams generate an incredible amount of emotional reactions. The highs and lows of winning are matched with the highs and lows of efforts to make he team better.

I've been accused of not being a "good fan" because I am relatively subdued. I don't freak out when I don't agree with the team's decisions nor do I find it worthwhile to trash people who don't agree with me. Sometimes I think sports becomes an outlet for hostility, which is applied to the opponents or to ones own team as the situation warrents.

But I don't "get" the anger and hostility that being a fan seems to generate. It's only a game. Talking about the team is a kind of intelelctual gaime about a game. Do people live the rest of their lives like they do on sports boards?

I enjoy watching the games and trying to figure out what might be done to make the team better. To me the past is only interesting as a guide to future and I have little interest in reliving old blunders and controversies.

So I have no problem in saying I support the Suns even if it generates a chorus of sneers.

Damn, the things I write when I'm three good beers and bottle of wine down in the afternoon. But still, I stand by statement! Go Suns!

If I didn't care about the Suns I wouldn't be upset how things have gone, not just during the draft but the last couple months.

Gee, did I miss something? I wasn't aware that anything happened over the last few months. :p
