Like a lot of you I was high on Ray Horton at first to get the HC position. But my gut says hes just not ready yet for the job. Awesome DC, but HC is a different ball game. If he could bring Norv Turner for OC im buying, but that looks unlikely with Norv liking OLC Russ Grimm. Then im hearing Horton wants to bring in a college DC and based off all of the above im passing.

I also liked Andy Reid but he didnt respect the Cardinals organization enough to at least interview before making his decision.

The hot college coach Chip Kelly was never interviewed by Arizona.

Im a Todd Haley fan but a lot of you sold me on he's a great OC but may not be the best personality to run the locker room. I agree and I'll pass there too.

McCoy from Denver is an unknown, I think the Cardinals need a known moving forward so i'll pass.

So that leads me to Lovie Smith. Poor guy gets fired for a 10-6 season. All of his teams always play aggressive ball hawking defense and solid special teams. His offense features a strong running game, use of the TE and a big time WR.

When you add up all the plus/minus of these candidates, Lovie Smith is heads above the competition. Add in he made it to a Superbowl and he has been the only candidate openly lobbying for the Arizona job and he gets my vote- and I hope he gets yours too!

I don't like Lovie UNLESS we go back to a 4-3 defense. I've always felt like our defense was suited for a 4-3. If that happens then we need a 4-3 end rusher. If we do that, you are looking at a season to establish his cover 2 scheme. I will agree that in the long run it could be a great decision. In the meantime, Cards fans would have to endure another poor season WHICH could be fine if Johnny Manziel declares next year, we get the top pick and.........nevermind. If we hire a defensive coach, we have a guy who had the 6th ranked defense in the NFL already here. Why not just stay with him and the 3-4? You are looking at less time to get back to a winner than you do with Lovie.

Except Lovie had a record of 10-6 this year and Reid had a record of 4-12..

When was the last time a coach was fired after a 10-6 or better season?

With the Bills job now filled, Lovie will be pulling for the Cardinals job even more. I read something after he was fired that said he liked the Cardinals and Bills jobs the most because of the defenses. Look for talks to heat up between both sides in the next 48 hrs. Also happy to hear Cards interested in Jay Gruden!

Go Cardinals!

If Lovie is your guy then stick with Horton and bolster up the offensive coaching staff.

Here we have Horton who took a group of guys that were pathetic two years ago and has turned them into a VERY respectable defense. He had the balls enough to reduce or limit a player like Wilson who everybody agrees sucks going backwards. Guys like Acho and Washington are improving everyday. This defense has a plus to ratio with an offense that is one of the worse offense in the history of the NFL.

One other thing. Remember, Lovie was a DC and promoted with "no HC experience" and turned out to be pretty good. I will not be dissappointed if Horton is given the job.
