ESPN just had Jones going to the Cards in their live mock draft. Todd McShay and Bill Polian said Jones is highly rated by a number of teams. Jones ran a 4.39 at his pro day.

Another tidbit, Polian thinks Ryan Kelly is one of the 5 best players in this draft.

I have no problem with drafting jones if we were to trade back. Since they didn't allow trading and the options that were available I would have liked Mackenzie Alexander from Clemson personally

Jones is gonna be a beast in this league IMO.

I can't see Kelly being a top 5 player in this league regardless of how great Polian was as a GM & he's prolly the best ever.

That just goes to show you exactly how weak this draft is overall....

I like the player, just at 49 or 59 rather than 29

With rumors like this, and rumors on TJ Green -- I wonder if the Cards are planning to trade back a couple times and stockpile picks in the late 2nd to 3rd round. They sure seem to be looking that way

Then again -- Keim won't hesitate to take a guy 25 spots earlier than convential pre draft wisdom.

Looking at your post count, maybe you should have gone to the casino today. :)

Interesting game versus Florida. Seems a little lean for an ILB in the NFL. He's fantastic in coverage, but didn't do much against the run and Imnever saw him blitz.

Agreed.

Daryl Washington was 230lbs coming out of college, Jones is 220lbs.

This would be like putting Adrian Wilson at ILBer.

Maybe someone can clone a blend of him and Minter.

On the subject of Ryan Kelly. I thought, all along, he would be a great pick @ #29, but every mock and "expert" has him moving way up ( not just Polian ). Alabama O Lineman make me nervous. As a unit they seem to be perennially great, as individuals, not so much.

Remember Polian said he would not draft Honey Badger at all so I do not take to much stock in what he says.

So do the Cards think he's another Buc, or do they plan on moving Buc to safety and replacing him with Jones, or moving Jones to safety?

I don't think you can play 2 guys that small inside together.

I look at him as an interchangeable piece that could spell Buc or replace Minter on passing downs I would take him but only if we trade down seems to early for a player I would view as a 3rd down specialist. He would help in special teams immediately thou.

There would have to be a lot of beef on the DL to occupy the OL and keep the little guys clean otherwise they're toast if an O lineman gets a hold of them or teams run at them. They would be great in coverage though (I assume Jones has experience dropping into coverage).

The key to the successful Kuechly-Davis combo is the beef the Panthers have upfront. Both are outstanding All Pros but without space to roam they wouldn't be as effective. Short, Lotuleilei, Johnson and Ealy simply can't be moved. This draft is loaded with interior DL talent. Someone like Butler, Billings, Reed or Clark will fall to us, and we may get one of these guys even if we trade back. With a stout DL I could imagine the Cards selecting an athletic but undersized player like Deion Jones. Let him play on passing downs as a rookie, bulk up a bit and take over when Minter's contract is up.

He also said quote "you don't reward a player like Marcus Peters." Then

all he did was get defensive rookie of the year.

LSU has been a good proving ground for NFL players. I'd rather get Kelly to have a dominant O line, but in Keim I trust.
