The New Orleans Saints had quite the coaching staff shuffle this offseason, moving on to a new head coach with Kellen Moore coming in. Then they added the remaining positions, keeping only a few of their own coaches around from 2024, and one of their new coordinator additions was Doug Nussmeier, who took over on offense.

Nussmeier has been around the league with Moore for much of his coaching career, following him from the Dallas Cowboys to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Philadelphia Eagles, and now the Saints. This pairing has worked well as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and now they both get promoted upwards and are given the reigns to run offense their own way.

With Doug Nussmeier having a connection to the Saints as their former backup quarterback from 1994-1997, he now has the opportunity to return there as a coach. His son Garrett Nussmeier also currently is set up in Louisiana, as the starting quarterback for the LSU Tigers, and one of the top prospects for the 2026 NFL draft class. They will now be back in the same area, and son Garrett recently spoke about what it means to have his father nearby once again.

"It's gonna be really cool for not just me and my dad, but my entire family to have him that close," Garrett Nussmeier said this week, per Will Rosenblatt over at LSU Wire. "I tell people all the time, my whole life, always been a Saints fan because he played there. I think he's really excited to be back there and it's great for our family, great for him, and so I'm excited for him and it's going to be really, really cool."

It will definitely be interesting to see if the Saints consider taking Garrett in the 2026 draft, but regardless, it is great to see they will be reunited again with Doug returning to Louisiana. It is also nice to hear that Garrett is a Saints fan, even if he ends up not landing with the team, knowing he is a fan of the hometown team is a positive.
