Did anyone follow Overbay's minor league performance closely enough to know whether he is a bit streaky, a la Fins (or a la Durazo), with torrid spells intermixed with mild "slumps," or did he keep his average up over .300 as a consistent, uninterrupted hitting machine?

I've wondered the same thing. I thought he was more of a consistent batter.

I guess you assume a line-drive hitter would be.

It will be interesting to find out.

Perhaps he wasn't ready to be moved to 5th in the lineup, just as Junior wasn't ready to bat 3rd last season.

I'm pretty sure all ball players are inconsistant in the game-by-game sense of the word (there BC867, no semantics this time :D ).

I think all ballplayers seasons consist of slightly torrid spells and slightly mild slumps. Just throwing out a figure here, I'd say at least 95% of them fall into this catagory.

In fact, to check this out, if somebody gives me a player they think is really consistant. I'll go back and see if I can find any prominant slumps or peaks last year.

Otherwise, a 56-game hitting streak would not be special.....

But some players are streak hitters, aren't they? Cases in point: Steve Finley . . . Reggie Sanders.

This thread was wondering if Lyle Overbay has been a streak hitter.
