Mac on Bryant Johnson

We hear that Cardinals head coach Dave McGinnis had hoped to see more out of first-round WR Bryant Johnson by now. McGinnis was particularly irritated by a pass Johnson let slip through his hands early in the Week 11 loss in Cleveland, with the ball ending up as an interception.

This Guy is in a no win situation.... he was our #1 pick and our 2nd round pick at the same position is in the top 3 in the NFC atleast....Overall the guy has shown promise but is he as good as Anquan, now way..... Is he going to be a good WR, I think so.... just needs alot more work than Boldin does.

We don't talk about it much, but it must be tough sleding for Bryant.

It normally takes 2-3 years for a WR to develop in the NFL. Give him time. Boldin's sudden impact is quite the oddity in that regard.

Yeah well eventhough Mac is a good guy and all. I hoped to see more out of our coaching staff by this time. And Arizona fans are irritated with the lack of preparation, leadership, and management of the team.

Holy Moly give BJ a break. He is a rookie. Nobody said the guy was better than Boldin. Boldin is a freak. An NFL rarity.

Bryant is a rookie that has at least a year or two more untill he should, and will be judged on his NFL talents.

His speed, and strength are great. So he can't catch passes? Look who is throwing him the ball.

Bryant will be just fine. I followed his college career at Penn State, where he started slowly & then blossomed beautifully. He's a tough kid, will go over the middle & was a great red zone threat his last 2 yrs. Boldin will inspire him to be better. He'll be better next year, just wait & see.

Even though Graves should be faulted for not bringing in a proven veteran to lead these guys, I'm irratated that Mac allowed this sort of sour grapes BS to reach the media. He is a rookie, I mean Boston never really came on until his 3rd season, and he was a much higher draft pick. Shots like these could really damage his confidence and hinder his growth.

So much for Mac's loyalty, and dealing with team issues internally behind closed doors.

When evaluating college players the experts always analyse how polished a player is (ability to adjust to the NFL level). Of the about 8 players rated as 1st or 2nd round material BJ and Calico (2nd TEN) were a lot less polished than the rest, hence needing more time to develop.

That doesn't mean Graves made a mistake by drafting BJ, though!!!! BJ was rated as the #3 or #4 WR in all mocks etc., because along with Rogers and Andre Johnson BJ was the only "big" receiver with elite speed.

The posts saying Johnson is on track are 100% correct. Most receivers have to make major improvements in their route-running to be effective in the NFL where fast cornerbacks are the rule, not the exception. Separation is more important than raw speed.

That said, it is certainly too early to stamp Johnson as a player. I think he is playing as expected, but the tough part of proving he can make the transition to an impact player, still lies ahead.

Read somewhere, that Penn State offensive players usually take an extra year to get settled in the NFL because of the offense they played in college... but then, do quite well.

I think all of our recieving corps would have been better off if Sullivan had stayed at recievers coach. I wonder if he'll be around next year?

I think he's doing fine. What did we really expect out of the two rookies.

I would have been happy with 40 catches a piece for 700 yds each and a combined 6-8 tds.

If boldin didn't bust out like he did I'm sure we would have been happy with a forty catch season out of them both.

Now we have a 66-999-6 guy in boldin
and a 24-307-1 in johnson (plus he missed one game, and I think most of another)

We also have five more games to go.

I'm not going to set a limit for what boldin will do, but I think its feasible for johnson to get to 40 catches. If he does this, he will have had better numbers than many rookie receivers do himself!

I hope they decide tomove Sullivan to WR coach next year, I bet Sullivan is kicken himself in the butt right now for not taking the WR coach job in Dallas.
