Legacy trailer
This looks amazing! I cant wait.
But it got me thinking, I saw Thunderdome, but that's the only Mad Max movie I ever saw. I was born in 1980 but even so they were a little before my demographic. So I wanted to watch Mad Max 1 and 2. Well just so happens they are playing the original on HBO this week, maybe Stars or somthing, anyway I recorded it and started watching it and man is this bad. Just not really going anywhere they keep chasing bad guys in their weird cars and FABULOUS leather cop outfits lol... I only got to see about 30 mins of it, does it get better? Cuz this kinda just seems like a watered down version of Clockwork Orange to me. Should I keep watching?

I think Stout is going to miss out on the best movie of the summer based on principle.
No way I'll like it better than the Avengers. Sadly, I'll probably end up watching it, because I have a buddy who relies on me to get him to the theater for most movies. It's how I was hoodwinked into watching the abortion that was the last Fast and the Furious movie.
And my whole hating on this movie is because it could look and be awesome without having to recycle characters and themes. Why on earth couldn't it be an original post-apocalyptic movie? No reason...none at all.
as opposed to... the Avengers 2... which recycles characters and themes?
Well....comic books in general are similarly themed. He has a point that there is probably more room to explore themes in this type of movie. Instead, it's just ...post apocalyptic bad guys....Max get tangled....Max saves the day. Rinse repeat. That generic description can be used for every Mad Max movie to date (including this one).
can't the same be said of every post-apocalyptic movie? It's a genre... just like comic book movies. I just don't get bashing this movie... for probably doing the exact same thing as comic book movies. If it ain't your genre or your favorite franchise, I get it. But when the criticism is it's the same characters and themes rehashed that you get from every comic book movie and you want "originality", I don't.

Yeah, sure, they're EXACTLY comparable...one was done decades ago with different actors, and one is a direct sequel with the same actors several years later. Otherwise, they're exactly the same lol
Like, I wouldn't have been going "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome? Get a life!"

guess you have a major problem with the James Bond series then, huh? I mean... you must have been railing against Casino Royale, which completely rebooted the series... with different actors... same themes and all that.
must have loathed the idea of the Star Wars prequels too... that came out decades before, with different actors playing the same roles.
Nope. I'd even be for the Idris Elba James Bond casting idea. Of course I loath the Star Wars prequels...after the fact I think we can agree James Bond is quite a different franchise than most. Star Wars...blaaaaah lol
Look, of course there are times when it's a good idea to revisit a franchise, or to make sequels, etc. I've been on record as being eager for them--especially being eager for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, the Marvelverse movies, and others. Then you have things like the 3 Hobbit movies that you can tell are train wrecks before you see one second of the first one.
What it comes down to is whether or not you think a certain franchise should be rebooted/redone/sequelized. I clearly don't think we needed more Mad Max. Not at all. Make this a regular post-papocalyptic flick, and I'd be gung ho for it. As Cardinal.Ken noted, it's all about brand recognition. I understand the money grab/business side of it, although I think it's pathetic a studio has to latch onto that rather than make something original. Absolutely pathetic. Abandon the failing tent pole crapfests that have been losing money and invest in original movies. I used to go to the movies several times a week. That's fallen off to once every few weeks lately. It's not because of time or money, that's for sure.
It doesn't matter how much you try to tell me I'm wrong, Cheese, I will NOT agree that there needed to be another Mad Max movie. Why did it need the label and the character? Other than selling out for the cashola?
Do I pick and choose which of these franchises I support and which I don't? Of course, I'm a movie fan with differing tastes. That's my prerogative. Feel free to keep arguing with me...I love arguing
I missed mad max the first time around, I think it is a great idea to reboot them because even if you love the old ones, to me they aren't very watchable. Nostalgia factor doesn't matter to those who didn't see it the first time around. Its like having someone who just watched guardians of the galaxy turn around and watch goonies. They will likely find goonies horrible but those who watched it 30 years ago love it.
The original max max series is very old and dated. Rebooting it makes great sense as I bet a bunch of 35 and under people will see it in droves and love it without having seen the originals.
As long as it is quality cinema, it should be a hit.
Personally, having every movie a super hero flick is far more annoying than rebooting a franchise from 30 years ago.

so, if it's a franchise you LIKE, it's "needed" even though there's no originality or same actors, but if it's one you DISLIKE, it's not needed. Could have just said that instead of railing on and on about how important "originality" and "slapping a "known title" on movies are the reason you hate going to the movies (even though you continue to support the franchises you like that do so).
