For Stout: through all our arguments on this thread, I'll be really sad if you don't go see this. you hate the name and franchise here, but I really think this is a case of judging a book by it's cover. The level of mayhem and storytelling, mostly without words, is such a breath of fresh air for big budget filmmaking, that for a cinefile like yourself to miss it would be a shame.

that's all. hope you see it and like it as much as the rest of us.

Like I said, I had to take a friend to see it. I wasn't surprised I liked it. Great action flick with a curiously different yet deep theme. A solid A minus, to both me and my friend.

I think my point really stands, though. Replace Max's name with Bob, and it would have just been a post-apocalyptic movie.

but one that sadly, in today's marketplace, wouldn't get made.

And it really should have been called Furiosa: Fury Road. Charlize OWNED this movie.

My favorite line from an online review:

"Then suddenly Charlize Theron shows up. More like Charlize Heroine because she's the main female heroic lead. At first you're thinking, "great she's too hot to be in an action movie, this is going to be sexy and disappointing." Then you see that she's actually a cyborg. Hell yeah, so all you self-doubting suckers can step aside and suck ass in the corner while the rest of us watch her run over idiots with her war-tanker. But not until she smears grease on her forehead because she wants to make herself more flammable."

LOL

I get the feeling the director had that running scene with the suspended metal guitar player blasting as the battle raged on was in his mind for 30 years waiting for an opportunity to be screened. That was graphic novel genius. (It's also the moment my dad almost got up and left the theater wondering what in the hell I brought him to. Took it a little too literally)

My thoughts when I first saw the guitar-guy was "Oh for Pete's sake!", but it didn't take long after that for me to get into the ridiculousness of it all and end up in the "Hell yeah!" frame of thought.

The best part of the Doof Warriror is that there was a method to his madness. Since society had taken such a step backward to primital times, he wanted to evoke the old ideas of music, snare drums and battle horns which were blared on the battlegrounds and thus, that was the Doof warriors purpose. Just genius.

I didn't get the guitar/music bus but I figured hell, you have a lifted vehicle with 2 caddies on it, why would this look odd. It was a good movie, not awesome, but good.

A+ visuals. C- story.

Took me 15 minutes to figure out what the heck was going on. Was really ready for it to be over with 15 minutes left. It just seemed like the same scene for two hours

Yea. The same scene. It just seem to be based on just their one or 2 day travel from point A to point B and then back. Nothing really to it.

just saw this again in 2D and it was even better the second time. There were character beats I completely missed amongst the mayhem that grounded the story even more for me.

As far as spectacle goes, which is better, 3D or 2D? I've only seen it in 2D but I imagined it would be crazy in 3D.

well, I saw it 3D on the IMAX at the Chinese theater where the projection is INSANE. For spectacle sake, that was more of an experience, but the 2D actually allowed me to absorb little story moments a little better.

Yeah, I loved the music wagon.

I missed the opening sequence and arrived right at the titles, but I was totally expecting Miller to throw the audience a curve ball and have Theron say her name was Max. Hardy didn't say much at all in the movie and honestly when he did talk I kept hearing a bit of Bane.

Just saw it in 3d. It was cool but I think the 3d takes you out of the story a little bit. Was still 2 hours of adrenalin and a great time.

I finally will go see this Saturday. I am looking forward to it.

Off topic but do a lot of theaters nowadays have full bars in them? I never noticed it until I moved here to Illinois. Not just beer either but a bartender mixing drinks as well. They didn't have them in GA or TN and when I left AZ in 2006 I can't remember those being around.

I've seen one at Studio Movie Grill in Scottsdale. The AMC at Arrowhead is applying for a license as we speak. I know there are others. I support this movement.

The first place I saw it was an AMC out here. The theater near my new place has the bar and all seats are leather recliners, really nice.
