It's New York in the 1960s, and the men and women who work at the Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency are some of the top names in the industry. Master manipulator and leading ad man Don Draper is at the top of his game, but there are those who want to see him topple down. Can he maintain his formidable status? Writer and executive producer Matthew Weiner of The Sopranos fame is the man behind this 13-episode original series on AMC.

Watched the first two. I love the premise and IM a total sucker for period stuff. The one thing Im having a REALLY hard time with is the writing. Its SO heavy handed in terms of trying to remind us over and over again how period piece this show is. The comment about how "there's no magical machine out there that will make exact copies " was so forced I almost wretched. Imma keep watching cause I like the characters and the storylines, but they need to lay off the overused mysogeny factor (its just not believable even if it did happen that hard in the old days, nowadays it seems too contrived to be real) and they need to let the characters develop a bit on their own. I hope it gets to the point I think it can...

That line right there will keep me from watching this. Ugh.

Caught the next one. Looks like things are starting to fall into a line a bit... They are developing some characters, and while I find that they are working a bit too hard to remind us of time/era, its not as obtrusive as it was in the first two. Ill keep watching...

man, OnDemand is just a great function. Even though I really liked the pilot, I had found myself watching wayyyyy too much TV this summer and I decided if I was gonna have a new one, Damages was gonna be it. Then, I realized I could watch Mad Men whenever I wanted to, so I watched episode 2 today and it was just as good as the pilot. Gonna watch the 3rd one at some point this week. it's a really solid show.

oh, and anyone who likes good tv - keep your eyes out for BREAKING BAD which is gonna be on AMC in the next couple months. That show's supposed to be outstanding as well.

Still improving, which is nice. Seems the writers have lightened up a bit and the layers upon layers of intrigue with Don Draper is getting good...

the red-head in this show is without a doubt, the most luscious woman on TV right now.

Episode 3. Weak. The gal from the department store is either a bad character or a bad actress.

Episode 4. Much better. Campbell getting "fired." Was great. I hated that actor until now. Over all I think most of the younger guys in the office are weak actors. But Draper and the two higher ups are really good. The women in the office are really good. Draper's wife is excellent.

Random thoughts over.

:D

I didnt ruin anything!
Okay thanks. How about the condo Campbell got in the Upper East Side for 32000 in 1960? My folks got a 4 bedroom house in Phoenix (Glendale) in 1963 for 14000.

Wow. I could have the exact figures wrong.
